👋 Re-meet the Doulas who make The Collective what it is 🫶
Hi, I’m Elle! Before I became a Doula my field was evolutionary anthropology, so I’ve always known in theory that a village was crucial to how humans operate. But then I became a parent and I realised firsthand just how true that is - and just how lacking it is in the modern world. So I decided that instead of studying the village, I wanted to BE the village. And I’ve never looked back!
That’s not to say that I’ve totally left behind my background. It informs my work in all sorts of ways now, from deep diving into the research and evidence to help clients understand their birth choices, to using what I know about our evolution to help parents better understand (and thus care for) their tiny primate, I’ve actually found there’s been quite a bit of overlap! What I’ve found most of all is that evolution has given us a really good set of parenting instincts, when we’re able to tune out the noise enough to listen to them!
Fact about me: as a child living in New York City I once convinced a police officer at a St Patrick’s Day parade to give me his hat - it lived on my shelf for years as a trophy!
