Patient self-booking and earlier appointment offers via MyChart

We are gradually introducing new features in our MyChart patient portal – used by almost 400,000 of our patients - to give patients more control over their outpatient appointment bookings at our hospitals. Through MyChart patients will be able to choose from available appointment slots to book their appointments 6-8 weeks before they are due to be seen in clinic, and may also receive offers of an earlier appointment slot should a suitable one become available.

Patients without MyChart will continue to be contacted by telephone or email about appointment bookings or earlier appointments becoming available.

New research with CUH Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald published in Nature strengthens the evidence that Barrett’s oesophagus is a key precursor to the most common form of oesophageal cancer.

Why does this matter? Because it reinforces the value of early detection. Tools like the capsule sponge, which she is helping to develop, can identify Barrett’s oesophagus earlier- helping to prevent many cases of cancer before they develop. The new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital hospital will build on early detection as a key component to cancer treatment.
