Personally, I am a mum of a teenager and have a partner who is mixed race.
Professionally, I am a neuro-physio, and provide emotional and practical support for people with neurodivergence.
I hate discrimination of any kind and have been getting more and more offended, and feeling more and more uncomfortable with the movements of the far right.
It makes me really angry when I drive around Peterborough, where I used to live, and currently work, to see more and more Union Jack and St George's flags going up.
These flags used to represent pride in the country, but the original meaning has been taken over by people with racist ideas and open hatred of others. I find this sickening.
It used to be politically incorrect to make derogatory remarks against others, but now it is becoming the norm for a lot of people, and accepted by more and more people in society.
So, I thought to myself, there is no point being silently angry and offended. I need to do something to actively make a stand against prejudice and racism.
I know that whilst the racism and prejudice is getting out of hand, there are also many, many people like me who feel the same as I do.
So, I began with the idea of creating a counter-flag. Then, this developed into creating a brand to enable people to show their solidarity against racism and prejudice.
This is when the Embracing All Nations T-shirts were born!
I created two designs, both with the same message, and have had them made in a choice of black and white T-shirts, in small, medium, large, and extra large.
The really important thing to me is the message of anti-racism and inclusion.
Equally important is a 10% donation of each sale price to an anti-racism charity, that works to try to prevent racism through education, to expose incidents of racism such as the Windrush Scandal, and change policies. This way, everyone that buys and wears one of these T-shirts is doing something active and practical in the fight for racial acceptance and inclusion.
If this initiative takes off, and there is demand, I will be extending the range of products, with the same message, to include mugs, keyrings, stickers, bags.
I plan to sell as much as possible through word of mouth, and am looking for backing and promotion from interested parties, with a belief in the cause.
The T-shirts will soon be available on Etsy, and I am also looking into other retail avenues.
I also want to sell at appropriate events and stalls, as well as raise interest and profile for the cause using media.
The T-shirts are priced at £21.99 and if delivery is needed, there is a £3.99 postage and packing fee.
I attach a picture of the T-shirt options.
