Today is a day that ME/CFS sufferers have dreamt of!

A large study has announced confirmation that ME/CFS is indeed largely caused by genes which affect both the immune system AND the nervous system opening the door for further research and potential treatment.

For many, including myself, this is a moment of validation. It is a tragic injustice that ME/CFS hasn't been taken more seriously. The legacy of 'yuppie flu' means that sufferers are still often medically gaslit or largely ignored and left to get on with life the best they can. From today, that has to change and how welcome that change is!

My prediction is that, in time, scientists will also link ME/CFS with a grouping of comorbidities which include hyper mobility, EDS, ADHD, ASD, MCAS, POTS, PCOS, FND, Fibromyalgia and IBS to name a few...

In the 20 years that I've been privileged to work with clients who have chronic illness, and being all too familiar with the above list myself, this cluster of diagnosis' always seems to travel in the company of others on the list. The connection, I believe, will be genetic and also have a relationship to mitochondria (the 'rechargeable' part of our cells).

I can't wait to find out where all this leads!

Yesterday, I felt a part of something quite special.

When I trained 21 years ago, Aromatherapy was still taught following the traditions of Maury and Arcier who are recognised for introducing 'British Aromatherapy' which at its heart is a bespoke, holistic selection of essential oils which are blended safely and applied to the skin using intentionally relaxing massage to the face and back.

Yesterday, I was able to indulge in a whole day of revisiting, and delving deeper into, British Aromatherapy at The Well School. Incredibly, this was the first opportunity I've had to do this since I first trained because the 'industry' of Aromatherapy has changed so much over the years.

But we're still here. Holistic Aromatherapists, using our knowledge of plants with tender, intentional touch to hold space for you during Aromatherapy massage.

Thank you for so beautifully providing the space for us Aromatherapists to reconnect with British Aromatherapy.

On-site Chair Massage Event for Mental Health Awareness Week.

What a privilege to have spent the day at the very beautiful St Catharine's College. We were invited to offer on-site chair massage and reflexology in promotion of Mental Health Awareness week.

As you can see, our therapy room for the day was a stunning example of what makes Cambridge so special and we were welcomed by exceptionally warm and friendly people all day long. Smiles for miles.

So many people were astonished that they were able to achieve such a deep state of relaxation in just 15 minutes and whilst at work. We had reports that staff could smell our 'day spa' down the corridors and that our calming vibe had spread to those who weren't lucky enough to book a massage.

Pictured with me is Jamie, my colleague and associate therapist at Sturton street - she is a whizz on the massage chair. I may need to start referring to her as the 'On-site massage Ninja' as I watched person after person magically let go of their tension after just a brief few moments of her attention. Magic!

Aromatherapy massage is just a relaxing massage that smells nice, right?

Wrong!

Here are four, very different ways I've incorporated Aromatherapy into clients treatments this week.

1) Aromatherapy massage to bring some cheer to a client who was very much over the return of winter this week - we selected sunny citrus oils and turned up the heated blanket and focused on head and decollete massage. Instant sunshine.

2) Pregnancy Facial for a client whose sleep hasn't been great and who felt her skin was showing signs of her tiredness. I blended Mandarin and Frankincense in apricot kernel oil along with some beautiful products from and . I am qualified to work with essential oils during pregnancy.

3) A deep tissue massage blend of Rosemary, Sweet Marjoram and Lavender for a client whose shoulders felt stiff and achy. After working through some trigger points I used the blended oils to massage in an invigorating 'Swedish' style to revive and rejuvenate her muscles. A fab combination of 'dry' work and oil massage to get some mobility back.

4) A sweet, intentional massage working at an emotional level for a client who arrived with a full load that she sorely needed to put down for a while. She selected Neroli to go with a calming blend of Rose and Bergamot and gradually, she was able to let go of the tension and drift off.

Aromatherapy can be incorporated into most of the treatments I offer.

A skilled Aromatherapist understands that to recommend a suitable essential oil or blend of oils, there are steps to be taken.

Firstly, curiosity. We must understand you. Your individual health and emotional circumstances will influence our selections. We should ask questions and hold the space for your answers with an open heart and mind.

Next, we apply our knowledge. Aromatherapy qualifications often take years to complete...and that's just the start of our learning journey. Each oil has a personality all of its own and we must consider why we think a particular oil is the most compatible. The mantra of 'First, do no harm' is a constant companion.

Last, but not least, our years of experience help us to fine tune your remedy. We know that sometimes less is more. We know how to balance a blend to create incredible, usable aromas. We enjoy the process of creation and sharing it with you.

We don't sell oils. We don't recommend unsafe usage. You'll never hear us recommending that you drink essential oils or use them neat on your skin. You're in safe hands.
