When Asda Liscard's community champion Manda heard her home town wasn't going to have a Christmas tree again this year she knew she had to do something to help spread a little festive cheer.
She got in touch with colleagues in our head office in Leeds to say how much people in Liscard would love a nice Christmas tree in the town centre – and they worked their magic, donating a 30ft Norwegian Pine, which was switched on in front a big crowd by local star Natasha Hamilton from Atomic Kitten.
Manda said: "Being from Liscard I remember trees of the past and that nostalgic feeling and I just thought that something was missing. Having a tree in the place where you do your shopping is so important. In my role as community champion I am aware of the community spirit of Liscard and it's just nice that the people got behind it. They are such giving and caring people and it was really nice for Asda to give something back. There was such a buzz about the town last night, I don't think there's been so many people in the centre for a very long time."
Natasha said: "I’m so proud to be part of this incredible moment for Liscard, especially since my first performance when I was 15 was in this town. I grew up knowing how important community spirit is, especially at Christmas, and seeing everyone come together has been magical. This tree isn’t just about lights and decorations – it’s about reminding people that even when things feel tough, joy and togetherness can still shine.”
