What is intelligent eating? Intelligent Eating is as the name implies, eating intelligently. Intelligent eating strips back all bias, money, influence, marketing and propaganda about food. It provides information about the foods you eat and how they affect your health, particularly your longer term cardiovascular health. Who is this aimed at? It’s aimed at people who have a genuine interest in their health. Genuine is used because there will be a degree of learning required to understand the psychology and biology involved. What’s the science behind this? Fortunately it’s immense, peer reviewed, irrefutable, multi national, and current. What is different about this from all the other dietary change noise out there? The outcome is, by design intended for long term maximising health, minimising incidence of disease rather than a focus on weight loss or improvement of external appearance as primary objectives. Some dietary changes target weight loss, or one specific disease – intelligent eating is about providing information so you are best placed to make the right decision for yourself. What this is not.
-Telling you what you can and can’t eat.
-Sale of any product or supplementation.
-Hidden agenda through funding from an interested party. What is the intention of intelligent eating? To achieve long term optimum health through education of dietary media. Why haven’t I heard of this, if it is true…? Government, industry, and big pharmaceutical companies to name a few tend to filter the information provided. Typical outcomes:
Through understanding of the information given and subsequent implementation, typical outcomes are as follows:

Massive change in blood work, especially CRP, cholesterol and fasting glucose. Positive changes in energy levels. Fat loss, where excess fat is present. Reduction in atherosclerotic material present. Less incidence of type 2 diabetes. Less incidence of neoplastic disease. Rapid increase in endothelial function.

At population level, the health outcomes correlate strongly and are statistically significant.

"Oi, fat bastard!" - they shouted at him.

Maybe you can relate to this, or maybe you're about to find out... :S

Blast from the past stuff.

Here's how Andrew lost 5 stone and kept it off. I was chatting to someone this week about diets and stuff like that and this Cambridge thingy came back onto my radar; it reminded me of a chap called Andrew I worked with in 2018 who had 'tried everything" and always ended up back in the same place.
He said that the problem was he didn't have time to prepare meals and he was done with nonsense stuff. I said, fair enough - but why now are you reaching out to me?

This is the reason, now Andrew is a 46 year old partner of a solicitors firm in Ely and he was getting the train one day from Ely to London and someone shouted at him "oi, you fat bastard!", that is what hit him hard. He had all the cash anyone could want, a high status role but a few teens could bring him to tears with words. Turned out there was more - he has 4 kids as well, and he couldn't keep up with them. Don't get me wrong, not all of us can even at our fittest but he was done in, self esteem was not in a good place.

He had tried SO much, and done okay over time but it always came back, always the 20st mark (he's a big bloke at 6'3") and spent a fortune on personal trainers as well.
I said to him, I want you to do two things for me and come back to me in a month.

He never came back to me in a month, but he did about a year later and he had lost 5st.

Andrew was never a client, just someone that I gave a bit of advice to.

Kindly he did actually offer me some cash, and I did accept it and was very grateful.

Here are the two things Andrew did on my advice.

1. Every single morning eat a bowl of porridge.
2. Drink 4 litres of water every single day.

That's it, he had questions like what sort of porridge or can I use milk, or should I avoid fruit on it and I said, Andrew - I don't care, just do those two things.

This is how a lot of people get results with me, small changes which actually are incredibly powerful.

So what actually happened here.... firstly, displacement - he wasn't hungry at 10am and ordered a massive breakfast bap and then having a huge lunch. He was full at 10am still, simple. Lunches became smaller, and dinner was normal. The water was simple, he needed to drink water and he was only drinking coffee. He still drank coffee but for pleasure not to hydrate himself.

See how easy that is? Is it for everyone, nope. It worked for him though, for his lifestyle.

This is Intelligent Eating, not nonsense fad stuff, but smart decision making over time which is easy to do and requires minimal thinking. That is what gets results.

I hope you find this interesting - it was just a convo this week I had with someone and it reminded me of him and here's why. There is actually a product called "meal replacement porridge", I am not bullsh*tting you - this is the world we live in and it is designed with commercial gain first.

Porridge might not be the answer for you, but I can promise you that meal replacement porridge definitely isn't!!

Tell me your situation and I'll give you some pointers if you like. We are all the same species, but live different lives; different lives need different practical solutions. Andrew didn't count calories or know how much protein he was consuming, and he couldn't care less.

What he cares about is that in his head he's not a fat bastard anymore and his kids have more respect for him.

You’re probably sitting there, scrolling, telling yourself, “I’ll start tomorrow.”

Tomorrow, the big magic New Year’s Day where you suddenly become the person you’ve always wanted to be, right?
WRONG.

If you can’t make a move today, what makes you think you’ll wake up tomorrow and have it all figured out?

SPOILER: You won’t.

January 1st isn’t some divine reset button.

It’s just ANOTHER day.

And if you’re waiting for the perfect moment, it’s already here.

I WILL EXPLAIN HOW TO MAKE IT WORK. You have to change the cost/benefit analysis that your brain is running constantly. Every single action you take is the results of a calculation your brain has run and determined an outcome.

It might be whether to put on a coat when going outside based on meteorological data you believe based on information you’ve received from somewhere.

It might be whether to go to the toilet based on a feeling that you have internally or it might be based on knowledge that you will not have access to a toilet for a significant period of time.

It might be that you are now concerned about your health and it is affecting your quality of life.

It might be that a relationship has changed and you now need a new social ecology.

It might be something else.

There is a point to this. You can CHANGE the equation with new information!

There’s a problem though, being blindsided and malleable through good copy…. here’s what a coach would say to pitch you:

This is nonsense. You don’t just change, that makes ZERO sense. If you think that you can outsmart your endocrine system, your nervous system, and your motivational systems by “changing your mindset” then you are delusional.

Your ‘mindset’ changes as a result of information your nervous system is receiving changing. Eg, the person that loses their average job will fire into action if they suddenly become aware that they will lose their home if they don’t find a new income source. They didn’t change their mindset, new information changed their cost/benefit analysis of the situation.

Let me be really clear. There are people coming for you and they want to take your money. These people call themselves coaches, health coaches, whatever.

Almost without exception, NONE will have any effect on your output whatsoever.

Solution: change the equation.
