In new policy documents on what can be done to help improve mental health in the workplace, The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended that businesses provide yoga classes at work.

The WHO, along with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) also recommend interventions "that aim to build workers' skills in stress management" such as mindfulness training, and suggest that all firms should give managers mental health training so they can help staff in distress.

According to the WHO’s director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, “the wellbeing of the individual is reason enough to act, but poor mental health can also have a debilitating impact on a person’s performance and productivity.” In their report, the WHO estimate that one in seven (15%) adults of working age has a mental health disorder, and that 12 billion working days are lost each year globally due to depression and anxiety among workers.

Bolstered by a vast and ever-growing body of research demonstrating the effectiveness of yoga and mindfulness in tackling stress, depression and anxiety, endorsement from The WHO and ILO as to the value of these practices for improved mental health is exciting news for our field.

Do you offer workplace yoga? We’d love to hear about your experience below! 💜

I am delighted to announce my September yoga offerings! Two open-level evening classes will soon be on offer, on Zoom on Mondays and in-person on Wednesdays!

Zoom classes will take place on Mondays 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm (from 13/09 until 18/10), with the recording of the class available for all attendees for a week (or you can purchase the recordings if you cannot attend live).

Early bird offer: block-book for 6 weeks for £36* – please email to reserve your place before making payment. Places are limited so that I can give you individual attention, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

In-person classes will take place at St Paul’s Centre on Hill’s Road on Wednesdays from 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm (from 8/09 until 20/10, NO CLASS on 15/09). Please note the new time!

Early bird offer: block-book for 6 weeks for £54* – please email to reserve your place before making payment. Spaces are limited (in line with Covid guidelines), so be quick to book your spot!
Classes are open level and include many modifications to suit your needs.

Please get in touch with me (sophiedubillot@hotmail.com) if you wish to book your spot at the early-bird rate! Spaces will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.

I am really looking forward to seeing many of you back on the mat in a few weeks.

Namaste,

Sophie X

I hope that you are all very well!

I am very excited to be back on the mat after eating my body's weight in pastries, baguettes, summer fruits and fromage in France!

I am looking forward to welcoming you all back to practice this week, wherever you are. We are still on Zoom for now, but I am looking into resuming our live class at St Paul's, from September, and to perhaps keep the Zoom class too, for the time being. I am studying practicalities and risk-assessing. I will send out a quick survey soon. Watch this space!

It is still hot, so practice this week will be designed to keep you cool. We will be working on opening our hips and shoulders, and I have also incorporated longer holds for some postures, yin-style. This way will let our bodies open without us sweating too much!

Booking for tomorrow:

Please drop me a line (sophiedubillot@hotmail.com) if you would like to join our community class tomorrow evening, live or recorded. Remember that our Wednesday evening Zoom yoga is from 6pm until 7:15pm. Like previous weeks, I would like to keep the number of participants at a maximum of 15 per session, so that I can give my full attention to students on my screen, so please reply asap if interested!

Namaste,

Sophie
