Cambridge Global Health Partnerships (CGHP) facilitates safe, ethical and effective health partnerships between Cambridge and the East of England and low- and middle-income countries to tackle some of the biggest health issues of our time. The aim of Cambridge Global Health Partnerships is to support positive, sustainable change in global health through facilitating international partnerships with hospitals and health organisations in low and middle income countries. To achieve our aim we support staff and students of Cambridge University Hospitals and the local health community to make practical contributions to global health by volunteering.

We’re hosting a webinar for those interested in finding out more about our Ethical Elective scheme. 🖥️

All healthcare profession students training in the East of England are eligible to undertake an ethical elective in a CGHP partnership.

It’s a great opportunity to gain clinical experience with funding up to £1000 available to help with the costs. By working in a healthcare institution in the Global South you’ll get a unique experience that isn’t available in the UK, helping you gain broader self-directed clinical and/or research experience, and contribute to sustainable impact within a health partnership.

Join CGHP for this webinar providing more information on what ethical electives involve and how you can apply.

With thanks to the Thriplow Charitable Trust for their generous support of this year's Ethical Elective Scheme.

Our latest event brought to life how our work is developing people and delivering global health impact. 🌎

A huge thank you to our speakers – NHS staff and students who are recent recipients of CGHP grants and ethical elective funding – who shared how their experiences have advanced their careers and supported the development of others. Their stories highlight how the health partnerships approach is helping to deliver sustainable, long-term change in global health.

The event also echoed a key theme from our new CGHP Impact Report – catalysing personal and professional development. We’re grateful to everyone that joined us including teams visiting us in Cambridge from Uganda and the Philippines – we hope you enjoyed hearing directly from some of the people behind the partnerships and the impact they are helping create.

Thanks to Innovate Cambridge for allowing us to use your inspiring space for this event.

We’re proud to launch our Impact Report, which highlights how CGHP-facilitated health partnerships are improving global health. 🌎

The report explores an important dimension of our impact – the perspectives and experiences of CGHP members and partners who are directly involved in the health partnerships we support.

The findings were overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of 2024-25 participants reporting they developed new techniques or approaches relevant to their clinical practice. Participants also reported significant growth in understanding of global health issues, expanded their role scopes and enhanced their cultural understanding.

Two of our long-term CGHP volunteers are currently supporting antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) and infection prevention efforts in Kampala. As part of CGHP’s health partnership with Uganda, Clinical Pharmacist, Chloe Aherne and Registered Nurse, Yasmin Boateng from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are working with teams at Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital and Kawempe National Referral Hospital.

Their placements are focused on strengthening clinical practices to tackle antimicrobial resistance particularly in maternal and neonatal care. They have been working with teams at both hospitals to deliver infection prevention training, central line care training, develop evidence-prescribing guidelines and deliver an audit of AMS on post-natal wards. We are pleased to share a few photo highlights from their first couple of weeks on placement.

We are delighted to share a short video featuring reflections from some of the 2025 CGHP Global Health Fellows 🎬. The film captures how their experiences have shaped their clinical practice. The Fellows also reflect on how the fellowships have influenced their personal and professional development – from building confidence and leadership skills to strengthening their cultural competency and awareness of inequalities.

Thanks to our pro-bono partner, Costello Medical, for producing this film for us during the Global Health Fellows Annual Learning Event. CGHP thanks the NHSE East of England for part funding the global health fellowship programme, and all our fellows and supervisors – past and present – for their commitment, insight and dedication. We look forward to seeing what future cohorts will achieve.
