Our Story
The first society of its kind at Cambridge University, CATTS aims to bring a new level of cancer awareness to Cambridge. According to Cancer Research UK, around 2,200 teenagers and young adults (TYAs) are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK. Despite the rareness of TYA cancer, lymphomas, carcinomas and germ cell tumours collectively account for more than half of all cancers diagnosed in 15-24 year-olds. With awareness events running throughout the year, CATS aims to make students aware of common TYA cancers, and their signs and symptoms. From Facebook and Twitter campaigns, to college events and laid-back socials, we'll make sure that you're always kept in the awareness loop. Fundraising is also integral to CATTS. Be it cancer care or cancer research charities, we aim to get Cambridge students giving to many worthwhile causes. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for information about our fundraising campaigns, so you never miss out on making a monumental difference to people going through cancer treatment. Our timetable of CATTS Talks and Presentations will also be something to look out for- whether it's cancer survivors sharing their inspiring stories or consultant oncologists talking about latest treatment paths for cancer types, you will always be able to take something away from our CATTS Talks. CATTS is also here for anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer whilst at Cambridge, or has been closely affected by cancer. We provide a space for you to talk about any experience with cancer, and will try our best at providing a support network for those going through difficult times. Keep checking our page for our regular CATTS updates, and most importantly, make sure to check us out at the CUSU Freshers' Fair! Any queries, please email cats.cambridgeuni@gmail.com or contact our President, Emma Jackson, at emhlj2@cam.ac.uk
