PrAUD (Promoting Access and Use of Dementia services in South Asian communities) is a UCL-East-funded community-based project led by Dr Claudio Di Lorito, a Research Fellow at University College London.

PrAUD aims to:
• Increase the understanding of the barriers and needs of people from South Asian communities on a dementia journey.
• Promote awareness, access and use of dementia care and support services in South Asian communities.

Our Team at UCL have built a partnership with people living with dementia and their caregivers from Southeast Asian communities in East London and met regularly over the past few months. Through the partnership, we have:
• Heard stories of dementia journeys through individual conversations with community members, gathering important information on the experiences and needs of the community, on the barriers to service access and use, and on which ways these barriers can be addressed.
• Co-developed with the community members and an artist from East London (https://www.adajusic.com/) storyboards illustrating their stories. An example of this story (copyrighted) is below.
The next steps of PrAUD is to showcase the storyboards at a community event in September at the Carers Centre in Tower Hamlets, London (https://ccth.org.uk/), where we will invite all people from the community to raise awareness about

Join us to facilitate the role of social prescribing link workers in providing care for people living with dementia

What is the “social prescribing study” about?
Everyone living with dementia should have a ‘personalised care plan’. The plan should include health and social care support based on what matters most to the person. Social needs are important for people living with dementia. Social prescribing links health and social care with community services to meet social needs. It is important and timely that we understand the experiences and needs of the current workforce in supporting people with dementia and carers. The “social prescribing study” aims to facilitate the role of social prescribing link workers in providing care for people living with dementia by co-producing evidence-based resources to improve community-based personalised dementia care.

Developing new information and advice

We are inviting people living with dementia, caregivers, social prescribing link workers and stakeholders to join us in developing resources so that we can facilitate the role of social prescribing link workers in providing care for people living with dementia.
You can help us by taking part in a short remote (online on Zoom or Teams) or in-person interview with our research team. You can also help by taking part in a remote (online on Zoom or Teams) or in-person group discussion.

What will be expected of me?
We would like to find out from social prescribing link workers:
• What is the current provision of social prescribing?
• What are the experiences of supporting people living with dementia (and carers)?
• What are training and support needs for social prescribing link workers to provide better care for people living with dementia?
• Are these training and support needs being met?
• What are the gaps and what can be done to better support social prescribing link workers?
Everything that you tell us will be anonymous and not linked to you in any way.
