PARTNERSHIP CHANGES - OCTOBER 2024
As you may know, Camelford Medical Centre consisted of two separate GP Practices – one run by Dr Garrod and one run by Dr Nash. At separate times during the last few years, both have been taken over by The Veor Group, based in Cambourne.

The Veor Group is a partnership, consisting of four Partners, who collectively manage Veor Surgery (Cambourne) and Camelford Medical Centre (together with its branch surgeries in St Breward and in Delabole). Dr Salil Pande and Ian Shepherd have day to day partnership responsibility for Camelford Medical Centre, with Dr Jonathan Norris and Scott Bennet having day to day partnership responsibility for Veor Surgery.

Partly due to the geographic distance between Cambourne and Camelford, and the desire for Camelford Medical Centre to be more autonomous, discussions have taken place within the Partnership and the decision has been made to remove Camelford Medical Centre and Veor Surgery from The Veor Group partnership, and to make them stand alone partnerships and practices.

NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board (ICB) have been made aware of this and are working with us to bring into effect the necessary contract changes that this will entail. We are also dealing with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as our provider registration will also need to change.

There will be many other ‘behind the scenes’ changes happening over the coming months and it would be wrong to say that these changes won’t affect you, as they will – hopefully with a positive effect, a more personal service, and increased relevance to the needs of patients in the north-west of Cornwall.

As part of this we will look at re-organising clinical rotas and the placement of various clinical staff in the three surgeries, all designed to better meet the needs of the surgery and its patients. Our branch surgeries in St Breward and Delabole will also see changes and improvements over the coming months. Dr Pande and I are keen to improve services for our Delabole patients, and we are in preliminary discussions with the ICB to see if we can establish proper dispensing facilities there. We currently have a collection service in Delabole for medicines dispensed in St Breward and it would be great to have a dispensary in Delabole.

We might not get it right the first time, but we will do our best to provide the best service we can, with the resources available to us at any given time.

This weekend saw a much needed ‘de-clutter’ of the surgery in Camelford, although there is still much to do and further improvements to come.

We are also keen to establish a Patient Participation Group (PPG) as a route for patients to advise and inform us on what matters most to them and to work with us to identify solutions to problems. If this is of particular interest to you then please let one of our receptionists have your details so that you can be contacted. If we have sufficient response, then we will work hard to set up a PPG as soon as possible.

Please bear with us over the coming months as our staff, both clinical and non-clinical, work hard to provide an improved service to you all.

Regards,

Ian Shepherd and Dr Salil Pande – 28th October 2024

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccination

From 1 September 2024, those who turn 75 and those age 75 to 79 will be eligible for a free vaccine to protect them from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

RSV is an infectious disease of the airways and lungs. RSV infection often causes symptoms similar to a cold, including:
• cough
• sore throat
• sneezing
• a runny or blocked nose

It can also make you become wheezy or short of breath and lead to pneumonia and other life-threatening conditions. There is no specific treatment, and most infections will get better by themselves.

Every year thousands of older adults need hospital care for RSV, and some of them will die. RSV can be more severe in people with medical conditions such as heart or lung disease or a weakened immune system.

RSV infection is common in young children but is most serious for small babies and for older people.

Please click the following link to find out more information: -
Your guide to the RSV vaccine for older adults - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

We will be contacting all eligible patients and texting a link so that you can book your appointment directly with the surgery.

Thanks to all of our wonderful patients for bearing with us as we dealt with last weeks IT disruption both on the day and during this week.

I am immensely proud of my team for all that they do and this is also felt by many of our patients - particularly the one who brought in some chocolates, biscuits, and apple pies. I am told that they will all be enjoyed and gone by the end of Monday,

Thank you again.

Ian Shepherd

As you may know, there is worldwide IT disruption facing many industries including, in the UK, the NHS and general practice. The clinical system that we use (EMIS Web) is affected which means we are unable to book appointments or gain full access to your clinical record.

Please bear with us during this difficult time.

Our staff are doing all they can, but until the cause of the disruption is identified and resolved, they are limited in what they can do.

Friday 12th July 2024 - please bear with us over the next few days as we have several members of staff off with Covid. This has affected both clinical and non-clinical staff but we will try and answer the phones as quickly as possible, and offer as many appointments as we can.

Your understanding, support, and patience will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

As you may know many pharmacies throughout Cornwall are closing. If you live more than one mile from a pharmacy, we are able to dispense your medication which can then be collected from our Camelford, Delabole, or St Breward surgeries.

If you would like us to dispense your medication then please email camelford.prescriptions@nhs.net and let us know which surgery you would like to collect from.
