🏃‍♀️🚶🧍‍♀️🧍Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints)

We recently had a client attend the clinic with a progressive onset of pain down the front of their shin bone. They also report intermittent swelling after a walk.

Here is a snap shot on how we helped this client!

Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome is usually characterised as pain down the tibia bone (shin bone)
Typical causes are a sudden increase in weight bearing activities such as walking or running.

Primary Management
✅ lifestyle and activity management to prevent further irritation
✅ Advice on exercise prescription to promote progressive weight bearing
✅ use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication (always check with a GP or Pharmacist before using new or changing medication)

✅Manual Techniques
✅ Acupuncture
✅ Massage
✅ Taping
✅ Use of a cold compress with reasoning and advice on safety

Red flags to be ware of - Seek immediate medical attention
🚩 Swelling/heat/redness in the calf
🚩 Changes to size of your calf
🚩 Swelling with heat and/or fever
🚩 Possible stress fractures from assessment
🚩Leg swelling with shortness of breath or chest pain

Pregnancy is an exciting time for parents. Planning and preparing for a new life. However many woman suffer through pregnancy, Pelvic Girdle Pain can really be a hindorance and limit what a pregnant woman can experience.

1-5 pregnant Woman experience symptoms

👶🏼 Pelvic girdle pain can develop through pregnancy with pain around the back/pelvis and p***c bone.
👶🏼Difficulty walking, standing, turning.
👶🏼 Struggling with getting comfortable to sleep

🤰Risk Factors🤰

👶🏼Previous back or pelvic pain
👶🏼PGP in previous pregnancy
👶🏼Poor supportive postures or a sudden increase in physical work load
