Harper’s birth story - part 2 of 2

So, after getting my own way and being allowed to go home to my own bed and rest, I was feeling quite pleased with myself.

The next day we arrived at New Cross around 9.00am ready for our induction of labour.
We were told that there was a little delay, so to make ourselves comfortable and that we were free to wander around the hospital grounds to kill some time.

We were made very welcome and the midwives were super helpful, I can honestly say I really enjoyed my time on the induction ward.

So in super speedy form, here’s how the day went . . .

🔅 9.30am - Had an examination and sweep, found out I was already 3cm dilated 💪🏼

🔅 Went for a walk around hospital, bought some snacks 😋

🔅 Came back to induction ward, read a book, listened to music. 🎶

🔅 Lunchtime - more walking and eating, a visit off my mum (she brought a magazine as we were told it was likely we would be there all day) 📚

🔅 Had a “show” and some questionable bowel movements 😂 - labour was definitely in full swing!!

🔅Another walk, followed by a nap, music and snacking. 💤

🔅 Listened to the poor lady in the bed next to me, struggling with her contractions- she was also 3cm dilated but we were having two very different experiences ❤️

🌙9.00pm - we were told that we would be moved to delivery suite in the next couple of hours ready to have my water’s broken.

🌙Midnight - Time to move down to Delivery - I asked for another nap, my beautiful midwife smiled politely and said “No more napping lovely, it’s baby time” 👶🏻

🌙 1.10am - waters broken - I asked a very important question.
Could they wait for a couple of hours to see if my body would go into active labour by itself before they gave me the hormone drip?
They said “yes” and allowed us to have 4 hours to get into active labour before they would start the IV.

🔅6.00am - HARPER WAS BORN!!! 🥰🥰

My birth was amazing! I felt so strong and powerful. I was in control and can honestly say, I remember all of it and could even hold a conversation between contractions.

The labour lasted 4hr50mins.
I used Calpol (don’t ask 😂) and 3 puffs of gas and air.
I swore ONCE!
And it wasn’t directed at either Phil or Anna (my amazing midwife).
I had no tears or stitches and Harper was born a healthy 8lb9oz.

To all my future Hypno mamas, you are going to be amazing. Your body was built to carry and birth your baby, in whatever form that birth takes.

You’ve got this!
💪🏼

Harper’s birth story - part 1 of 2

The High-risk, induced labour, diabetic one.

Having being diagnosed with Gestational diabetes, half way through my pregnancy, I was regularly informed by my care providers of the potential complications of being a “high risk” patient.

I was determined to use my hypnobirthing knowledge to help reduce my fear and allow myself to take control of my pregnancy/birth to reduce these so-called “risks” as much as possible.

Long story short, I opted for an induction of labour at 39 weeks. Our choice, our decision, no pressure.

It was the day before our induction date, I attended a routine midwife appointment to check my urine/blood pressure/baby.

The urine test threw up a whole rainbow 🌈 of results- everything from proteins to sugar and back again were showing up in there!

This resulted in the midwife strongly suggesting that I go to hospital to be checked out. It was a lovely summer’s day (not always that brilliant for a pregasaurus 🦖) and she believed I may have been a little dehydrated.

Once at New Cross, I was directed to Triage where I was monitored, examined and given a saline drip to help re-hydrate me. 💧💧

Here’s where I started to take control and where I am most proud of myself. 💪🏼

It was starting to get late (about 11pm by now) and the midwives on the unit had asked if I wanted to stay in the hospital and be induced that night - I would have to come back first thing in the morning anyway, so I might as well stay, right?! WRONG!

I wanted my bed, my blanket, a cup of DECAF tea 😂 , a cuddle off my husband and the chance to rest properly before taking on the life-changing event of labour and birth!

So I asked the question.

If there’s no risk to me or baby, could I please go home and come back again in the morning as planned?

After some hesitation and a few chats with my consultant, it was agreed I could go home to rest ready for the next day - RESULT.

Thank you lovely midwives - I’ll see you bright and early in the morning 💖

Throughout the night, I experienced some mild contractions, which I reckon was Harper giving me a high five for letting her stay in the cosy Hotel Uterus for another night.

The next day I would become her mama and I was SO ready, but first . . . Sleep 💤

Part 2 coming soon

Hey followers!

Wanna hear a story?

No, unfortunately it’s not this one about the puffer fish. It’s my birth story 🎉 and many others like it!

For those of you new to the page, this little cutie is my daughter Harper - when she was a lot smaller than she is now!

In the next few weeks I will be sharing her wonderful birth story and those of a few of my amazing Hypno mamas for you all to enjoy.

You might even get some cute baby spam to go with it! 🤞

Keep those peepers peeled.

Lots of love

Life Hack!

You see those giant zip lock baggies momma?
Go get yourself some!

Amazon Prime, EBay, Etsy, wherever you can, get some. 😂

As with any child, as they grow, they accumulate more stuff and as a parent it’s our job to organise said stuff.

The jigsaw puzzles, the flash cards, the endless books. They all need a home.

These have been amazing for our household, we zip things away and store them in a cupboard/box etc and they are super handy when you need to grab entertainment on the go.

And if you wanted to be really super nerdy, you could even colour code them to the type of activity inside - not me, I just launch them in the nearest zip baggy at the end of a day so that my house looks a little less like a toy shop has vomited in it! 👍

Hope it helps.

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet on the page recently, ladies and gents. My gorgeous 2 year old has been absolutely kicking my butt (both physically and metaphorically) with growth spurts, teething and tantrums 😂👍

But we are all good and we are still here and I’m looking forward to sharing some lovely stories and tips with you all over the coming weeks.

Last night I finished Session 4 with a wonderful couple and I couldn’t be more proud of them!

During our first chat, momma was very anxious about giving birth. She’ll admit herself that she was burying her head in the sand and pretending that if she didn’t talk about it then it wouldn’t actually happen.

Last night as I waved them goodbye and sent them off into the wonderful world of birth and parenthood I realised something.
She was actually smiling when talking about what was going to happen in just a few weeks time, they were both really, genuinely excited!

At that moment I knew.

I always start courses with the confidence that the parents will be amazing and I know that they will achieve the best birth for them but last night I saw it with my own eyes, that they believed me.

The confidence and excitement building week on week. The smiling faces, the joy of telling me about appointments and how the course had been useful.

They took everything on board and last night I realised how much had changed in just those few short weeks.

These sessions have been so much fun and I can’t wait to hear all about your birth.

So proud of you both ❤️

This was so me!!! 🙋‍♀️

I couldn’t understand why my teeth were chattering and my body shivering uncontrollably in the height of summer, turns out it was all perfectly normal.

Just another one of the amazing and unusual parts to becoming a new momma.

Essential Oils

Aromatherapy has wonderful benefits, not just during pregnancy, labour and birth but also during your post natal period and the rest of your life too.

Disclaimer; please ensure you read the leaflet/box that your oils come with to make sure you are using it for its intended purpose (not all oils are suitable for massage etc)

Here are just a couple of examples:

Lavender oil - well known for its relaxation properties, lavender is incredibly useful to help keep mom calm during labour. It can be used during massage, drops can be added to a bath or even just dabbed onto a handkerchief for mom to hang onto during labour.

Clary Sage - has muscle stimulant properties and is reputed to help encourage labour to begin.
WARNING : please be advised to not start sniffing clary sage before 37 weeks of gestation, as it can cause the uterus to contract.

Peppermint oil - great for keeping spiders 🕷 out of your house! Dilute with water and spritz on carpets for an air freshener with added benefits. Also good for nausea 👍

See I’m not just here for your hypnobirthing needs, follow me for more life hacks too!! 😂

Happy hump day folks!
Love Hannah xx

Look at how cute this is!! 😍

I don’t do what I do for gifts and praise, I do it because I want to help in any way I can. But this one I just had to share with you all.

This Thank You card and gift is a very special one for a few reasons.

My very close friends Ian and Becky gave birth to their daughter Felicity in March of this year. - which you will hear a lot more about in the coming weeks as they have given me permission to share their story with you all. 😬

Not only was Felicity the daughter of one of my close friends but she was also my very first Hypno baby (with the exception of my own bundle of joy of course ☺️).

The daffodils represent Felicity as it is the flower for the month of March and the birth stones on the bracelet belong to myself, my husband and our daughter Harper. 🌼

I burst with pride whenever I think about their birth, Becky was incredible and knew exactly what she wanted and was super calm throughout. Ian was the perfect birth partner, advocating for her when she needed it and providing her with unwavering support (I think if anything he was a little unnerved by how calm Becky was!)

To both of you, thank you for my gifts but the best gift you gave me was getting to meet your gorgeous little girl that you worked so hard to bring into this world.

You wonderful wonderful humans!!

I LOVE THIS JOB!!! 🥰❤️
