Harper’s birth story - part 2 of 2
So, after getting my own way and being allowed to go home to my own bed and rest, I was feeling quite pleased with myself.
The next day we arrived at New Cross around 9.00am ready for our induction of labour.
We were told that there was a little delay, so to make ourselves comfortable and that we were free to wander around the hospital grounds to kill some time.
We were made very welcome and the midwives were super helpful, I can honestly say I really enjoyed my time on the induction ward.
So in super speedy form, here’s how the day went . . .
🔅 9.30am - Had an examination and sweep, found out I was already 3cm dilated 💪🏼
🔅 Went for a walk around hospital, bought some snacks 😋
🔅 Came back to induction ward, read a book, listened to music. 🎶
🔅 Lunchtime - more walking and eating, a visit off my mum (she brought a magazine as we were told it was likely we would be there all day) 📚
🔅 Had a “show” and some questionable bowel movements 😂 - labour was definitely in full swing!!
🔅Another walk, followed by a nap, music and snacking. 💤
🔅 Listened to the poor lady in the bed next to me, struggling with her contractions- she was also 3cm dilated but we were having two very different experiences ❤️
🌙9.00pm - we were told that we would be moved to delivery suite in the next couple of hours ready to have my water’s broken.
🌙Midnight - Time to move down to Delivery - I asked for another nap, my beautiful midwife smiled politely and said “No more napping lovely, it’s baby time” 👶🏻
🌙 1.10am - waters broken - I asked a very important question.
Could they wait for a couple of hours to see if my body would go into active labour by itself before they gave me the hormone drip?
They said “yes” and allowed us to have 4 hours to get into active labour before they would start the IV.
🔅6.00am - HARPER WAS BORN!!! 🥰🥰
My birth was amazing! I felt so strong and powerful. I was in control and can honestly say, I remember all of it and could even hold a conversation between contractions.
The labour lasted 4hr50mins.
I used Calpol (don’t ask 😂) and 3 puffs of gas and air.
I swore ONCE!
And it wasn’t directed at either Phil or Anna (my amazing midwife).
I had no tears or stitches and Harper was born a healthy 8lb9oz.
To all my future Hypno mamas, you are going to be amazing. Your body was built to carry and birth your baby, in whatever form that birth takes.
You’ve got this!
💪🏼
Lots of love
