Two mornings a week, something really special happens in our community.
At Burntwood Library on Tuesdays and on Fridays at Cannock Library, our Memory Cafés offer a warm, welcoming space for people living with dementia, their families, and carers to come together, connect, and simply enjoy being in the moment.
Our Burntwood group was brand new in November and we quietly sat hoping that people would attend.
Today, it’s unrecognisable in the best possible way.
We had a brilliant session filled with energy and laughter — music playing, people dancing, singing along, taking part in activities, chatting over tea and biscuits, and supporting one another in a way that feels completely natural and unforced. These aren’t staged moments for the camera, the photos capture real life: movement, joy, interaction, and confidence shining through.
We were also honoured to welcome Wayne Mortiboys, Strategic Delivery Manager at Staffordshire County Council, who joined us to see first-hand the impact these cafés are having in the community.
What makes the Memory Cafés so valuable isn’t just the activities, it’s the atmosphere. It’s the way people relax, reconnect, and feel seen. It’s the friendships forming between people who may have felt isolated before. It’s carers getting a moment of support and understanding. It’s the reminder that life with memory loss can still be full of joy, dignity, and connection.
