Your brain can shift out of anxiety mode faster than you think. Try this joy exercise whenever stress takes over. I first shared it on stage and the response was incredible. 🌻

I've been there, the constant overthinking (especially at bed time) the 3am wakeups, the exhaustion loop, the feeling that everyone else has it figured out. They don't. They just found a better way to work with their brain in this crazy ass modern world we live in. šŸ’›

Send this to someone who needs to hear it today.

The fastest way to suck the life out of anything is to build it around other people’s shoulds.

I should do more of this.
I should be more like that.
I should look like this.
I should do it that way.
I should want what they want.

I don’t use the word hate very often but I really dislike the word should.

Because the minute I start doing anything from should, I stop enjoying it.

My hobbies.
My career.
My parenting.
My wellbeing.
My life goals.

If something has started feeling a bit meh lately, look at where should has crept in.

A feeling is not an identity

One of the most damaging things we can do is turn a feeling into an identity.

ā€œI’m an anxious person.ā€
ā€œI’ve always been like this.ā€
ā€œI won’t be able to do that because I’m anxious.ā€

And once your brain hears that often enough, it stops hearing it like a passing thought.
It starts hearing it like a fact.

There is a difference between:
I feel anxious sometimes
and
I am an anxious person
One describes a feeling.
The other creates a limit.

Once you build your identity around that label, you start ruling yourself out before life even gets a chance to challenge it.

You don't apply to that job you like the look of.
You don't go for the promotion.
You don't trust yourself with new opportunities and experiemces.
You hold yourself back before you even begin.
I hear this so much when I first start working with new clients.

Not just anxiety, but identity built around it, it really can keep you stuck far longer than the feeling itself.

Because if your mind believes this is who I am, it will keep looking for proof.

You are allowed to stop defining yourself by the hardest thing you feel.

Save this if you’ve been talking to yourself like a label instead of a person.

How many meetings have you gone into ready to make an impact… then held back when it mattered?
Not because you don't know your stuff.
Because part of you was still waiting for proof it was safe to speak first.
So you pause.
Nod along
And let someone else say it before you do.
Then you sit there listening to your own point come out of someone else’s mouth.
And then, you berate yourself for the next week for not speaking up.
That's what second-guessing yourself looks like in real life.
The issue isn't usually ability.
It's treating speaking up first like a risk.
If this hit home for you, save this post for the next time your brain does this.

This isn’t a confidence problem.
It’s a decision problem.
I speak to so many people who say they want to feel calmer, more confident, and stop overthinking…
But when it comes to actually doing something about it?
They hesitate.
They delay.
They try to ā€œfigure it outā€ on their own a bit longer.
And nothing changes.
Because confidence doesn’t come first.
It comes after you decide to act.
Not when everything feels perfect.
Not when you’ve got more time.
Not when life feels easier.
When you decide that how things are right now isn’t good enough anymore.
That’s the turning point.
That’s when things actually start to change.
If you’re ready to stop overthinking and actually move forward, you can book a consultation.
If you’re not there yet, that’s completely fine.
This is for women who are ready to prioritise themselves and go after what they want.

ā€œAct as if what you do makes a difference. It does.ā€ William James

This is my screensaver.

More than once this week, people have told me what I’m putting out is helping them and people they’ve shared it with.

I don’t rely on motivation (we know that ebbs and flows)

I anchor myself to impact......one person at a time 😊🌻

Is fear of the unknown keeping you from experiencing life?

In 2019 I booked a paraglide over Lake Como.
I wasn't even 100% sure what it actually involved.

A friend told me I'd have to run off a cliff.
I thought we'd be going off a boat.
I was getting mixed up with parasailing.
The website wasn't exactly clear either.

I was also keeping it a surprise for my husband.
So my brain was running through every possible outcome of his reaction too.

When we met our guide, Fabio, with a viking hat on the back of his minibus seat..... it was confirmed.
We would actually be running off a cliff.

My heart was in my throat.
My palms were sweating.
Every worst case scenario was running through my head, yet again, as we were climbing up the hill in this rickety minibus.
A vision of me coming to a halt at the high jump in high school kept flashing up.

But I knew I really, really wanted to do it.
So I did.
I ran/waddled off the cliff.
Put my faith in the lap of Fabio.
And flew over Lake Como.
Into one of the best experiences of my life.

That's what courage actually is.
Not knowing all the details.
Allowing the worst case scenarios to enter your head and letting them exit too.
Wanting it enough to run anyway.

I knew afterwards exactly how brave I could be.....even when I don't know all the ins and outs.
Exhilaration and confidence met me on the other side.
And I tap into that feeling every now and then when I'm having a wobble.
That run off the cliff.
It reminds me of what I'm capable of.

If there's something you've been really wanting to do but letting the worst case scenarios win every time..... maybe you need a guide to be your tandem.

I'd love to be your Fabio.

This time last week I was getting ready to start my webinar.
Excited. Looking forward to helping others understand their minds a little more and why their 3am wake up call isn't just a 3am problem.

Afterwards I got this message:
"To say I work with various psychologists on a daily basis....I learnt a lot from tonight."

That's why I do this.

If you wanted to join but couldn't make it — consultations are still open.

If you're waking at 3am and you're ready to understand why. I'd love to talk.

This will take you 10 seconds.... and could change your mood.

Your brain will always find what you tell it to look for…so, take a pause and....

Ask yourself: What’s been good this week?

I’d love for you to share 3 good things from your week in the comments.

Here are mine:

1. My twin boys turned 14 this week and have had a lovely week celebrating 🄳🄳

2. I held my 3am Wake up Call webinar and had some great feedback šŸ™Œ

3. I've had some lovely walks with my doggo 🐶 Hercules. The spring sunshine and brisk cold air combo is a favourite of mine 😊

Your turn… what’s been good for you this week?

If you find yourself stuck or always catch yourself adding a ā€œbutā€ to the good things, drop me a message.....let’s see how I can help change that for you🌻
