Anxiety isn’t something to battle. It’s something to understand.

I was away recently and spotted a t-shirt on the shelf that said “Anxiety is a liar.”
It didn’t sit right with me.
The phrase was repeated three times, almost like a command.
And all it does is push you straight into fight mode.
Challenge it. Fight it. Ignore it.

But that’s exactly what keeps you in survival mode.

Your brain isn’t trying to sabotage you.
It’s trying to protect you.
And when you understand why it reacts the way it does, everything softens.
You stop fighting yourself.
You stop spiralling.
Your whole system settles.

Self-awareness is the first step.
Understanding where you are right now and what your mind is responding to.

Your mind isn’t the enemy.

When you feel anxious, overthink or freeze before taking action, it’s easy to think your mind is working against you.

But it’s not.
Your brain’s main job is to protect you, not to perform.

It scans for threat, stores past experiences, and reacts faster than you can think. That’s not weakness. It’s your brain doing its job.

When you understand how your mind works, you stop fighting it and start working with it.
That’s when calm returns, confidence builds, and progress finally feels easier.

Do you ever notice how our minds love to zero in on the one thing we think we're bad at?

You could have so many strengths, so many things you manage beautifully, yet the moment you spot a wobble your attention goes straight there.

Suddenly the strengths fade into the background and the focus becomes the thing you feel you “should” be better at.

But confidence does not grow from constantly picking apart our weaknesses.

It grows from recognising what's already working and letting that part of us lead more often.

Tonight, take a moment and name one thing you are proud of yourself for. Something you handled well, a step you took, or even a moment you stayed grounded when things felt a bit much.

You are already far more capable than your mind sometimes gives you credit for. 🌻
