What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is part of the Allied Health Care Professions and uses a drug-free, non-invasive form of manual medicine that focuses on the health of the whole body, not just the injured or affected part. Osteopaths focus on the joints, muscles, spine and can provide relief and treatment for a wide range of conditions which include:
Arthritis
Foot, ankle, hip, and knee pain
Back pain, neck pain, and sciatica
Hand, shoulder, and elbow pain
Headaches
Tennis Elbow
Postural problems due to pregnancy, sports injury, driving or work strain
Digestive issues
Neuralgia
Sleep Cycles
Nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic symptoms
Pregnancy related pains
Infants and many more...
*Osteopathic physicians can also detect conditions that are not treatable through osteopathy and can refer clients to other specialists.
What is sports massage?
Sports Massage is a multi-faceted approach and an excellent tool for those suffering from acute and chronic conditions such as back pain, knee problems, and postural trouble. Sports Massage will mainly focus on the musculoskeletal system and common complaints that it can help treat, which include:
Neck stiffness
Upper back pain (Trapezius/Rhomboids etc)
Low back pain
Quads/Hamstring Strain
Groin Strain
Calf strain (shin splints)
Knee pain
Ankle conditions- Plantarfascitis/ankle sprains
Shoulder pain or aches (Frozen shoulder)
Sports injuries
Tennis elbow
Golfers elbow
Body Building- weekly maintenance
Gym related muscle strains
*Sports Massage Therapists can also detect conditions that are not treatable through massage and can refer clients to other specialists.
What happens to your body when you have a treatment?
Getting a massage can help flush some of the toxins out of our bodies and can help to increase the circulation of both the blood and the lymphatic system. Your blood needs water in it to keep it moving and doing its job of bringing oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, organs and other tissues
What should I wear?
Loose fitted clothing would be the most appropriate to wear during treatment as it allows the practitioner to carry out a full assessment.
What should I do after a treatment?
• Skip Your Latte, Grab Your Water Bottle- Massage gets your blood circulating and begins to release built-up toxins so keep yourself hydrated.
• Feeling Sore? Apply heat e.g. Hot water bottle/wheat bag/warm bath
• Fuel Your Body
• Postpone Your Workout
• Epsom Salt Bath/Muscle Soak
What should you not do after treatment?
Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which are dehydrating. Hydration is key to help flush waste and prevent next-day soreness and at least for those first few hours after a massage, this will ensure extended benefits from your treatment
How often should you have treatment?
Most elite athletes get at least one massage per week. For most amateur athletes who still take their sport and training seriously or regular gym-goers, once a week to once a fortnight is recommended. For most people who do the regular light exercise once every two, three or four weeks is usually sufficient, depending on the complaint.
