FlourishHer Helping women 40+ create simple yet powerful wellness habits for a thriving midlife.FlourishHer founder. How? Why this mattered to me?

I'm Michelle a 49 year old midlife woman and Wellness Habits Coach. I live in Canterbury with my husband Rob and our 2 teens, Sonny & Martha. I've always worked in roles where people have been at the centre of what I do...... but I'll admit I haven't always looked after my mind & body. An unbalanced diet, excess processed food and alcohol, no exercise and a smoker with no focus on my mental health. My weight was increasing and generally, I wasn't feeling great. Starting a family in my 30's prompted a couple of wellness changes, but the magic moment came for me when at 35, I started my career in Health & Wellness. I learned the key principles in what supports us to live in better health, such as; nutrition, healthy weight loss, sleep, movement and emotional wellbeing . Along with techniques on how to apply them in real life. I've been priviledged to have worked with hundreds of adults, over 1000's of hours and I've seen how small, steps and personalised support can help people thrive in their life. In short it changed my whole life. I walked my talk, explored and applied the health training/behaviour change techniques to myself and by taking one step at a time, I began to thrive in my mind & body, which is where I am today. As a midlife, perimenopausal woman, I'm fully aware of the transition our body goes through during this phase of our lives along with the challenges that may arise. It's my passion and purpose in helping women like you to thrive, feel good and live the midlife you want.

Thought for the day-Swap-“Let it go!”

I’m getting ready for the next FlourishHer women’s session, where our Oct theme is ‘Flourish Mindfully.

We’ll be looking at - Ditching overwhelm, keeping things simple…. exploring why a mindfulness practice matters so much in midlife plus ways to bring mindfulness to our daily living.

In getting ready, I delved back into my go to- resources and my midlife eyes found something I’d like to share with you.

We often get told or we feel it ourselves that we should “LET THINGS GO’ But the thing is…. letting go isn’t always easy right?…. We go back and forth, and sometimes we don’t feel we can ‘LET GO’
There are so many aspects of our life this could cover hey! In midlife there are many changes…. our mind/ body, our hormones, our family , children spreading wings, our relationships, work and friendship circles…me personally …I’ve felt or experienced em all! How can I possible let go of all of it? It’s too much!

The beautiful lesson I’d like to share - instead of “LETTING GO” explore swapping this thought to “LET IT BE”.
You’re not then ‘trying’ to change a thing… it might still feel tricky but the pressure to “LET GO’ and the gentle shift in approach, can leave you and me feeling lighter.
*Our midlife language and what we say to ourselves is everything!

But what does it really mean, why does it matter and how can you begin to cultivate a meaningful, embodied, mindful practice for yourself….if you’d like to 🧡✨

Yes! I am looking rather happy and smug on this fine Sept day, aren’t I😁.
Why, Michelle?
Because I remembered to leave the house, (popping out for half an hour) without going for a ‘just in case, wee!’ 🙌🏻
Sounds totally weird! But for the 20 Flourishers who turned up last week for our ‘Pelvic Health’sess, with guest Jackie, it makes perfect sense.
It’s likely we’ve been conditioned to go for a ‘just in case wee’ - as when we go out who know’s when will go again and what if we get desperate! So,we go for a dribble (50-200msl) our bladder likely isn’t full. We send the message to our body- hey when your bladder’s not empty- you’re gonna wanna wee (we get used to the feeling)= habit created!
If we hold on ( literally) and tune into our body, do we really need to go for this ‘just in case’ wee? our body would be more in tune if we …listened, waited if possible and emptied a full bladder ( 400ish mls) as opposed to frequency (1-200 mls) If you have no health problems of course. We’ve got into this unhelpful habit and when midlife comes along with its hormonal changes, our bladder efficiency may change, upping our loo visits .
I’m not saying hold it for hrs, I’m suggesting you tune in to you ( an aim of our FlourishHer). If you want to create a habit the tip is start small, maybe delay by 10 mins, explore how it goes…. And if you want to explore the topic further then get in-touch with Jackie Swift, Women’s Health Physio at The Limes Clinic in Faversham.

Is there anyone I know apart from Jackie, who DOESN’T do the ‘just incase wee’?
Let me know…
