Happy 2025! ✨
Sharing this beautiful candle lake that a friend made for celebrating light and setting intentions at the turn of 2024-5.
The days are still cold and as more light creeps in we can still take things slowly, but keep our bodies moving and turn our faces to the sun (when it’s out!)
We have resumed normal clinic hours after the holiday season and look forward to seeing you for your appointments soon ✨🤲🏼

~We are delighted to have Kate Wilson, an experienced homeopath, offering homeopathy at our clinic on Thursday mornings.

📚Kate studied at the College of Homeopathic Education achieving a BSc (Hons) in Homeopathy and licenciate diploma for practice. The 4-year course provided a rigorous training in homeopathic philosophies and practice, as well as clinical experience in treating complex cases.

✨Homeopathy uses gentle remedies to stimulate the body to heal as opposed to altering or suppressing symptoms of disease. Homeopathic remedies work holistically and treat the whole person.

🌿Outside of work, Kate loves spending time in nature, walking her dog, family life, cooking and dark chocolate!

~’If I’m in pain and I move will I cause damage to my body?’

We hear this question asked almost every day in practice. There are very few cases (often following traumatic injury/bone break) where complete rest is needed for healing to take place. Most musculo-skeletal pain, including sciatic or disc pain, when you move, does not mean you are damaging anything, although it may feel like it!

Osteopaths are trained to tell the difference between musculo-skeletal pain and pain from something a little more serious that needs referral for medical attention.

Once we have ruled out anything more serious, our patients are often relieved when we tell them, ‘it’s ok you can move, you can go about your daily activities, you are not going to cause any harm to your body’. This is relevant to acute (short term and intense) pain or persistent (lasting longer) pain.

A great resource around managing your pain and how you feel about it, that we recommend to patients is www.tamethebeast.org.

Do you have specific things you do/ turn to when you are in pain? What are the resources you draw on? We would love to know!

~ Gift vouchers now available ~

Give the gift of osteopathy! Gift vouchers now available for an osteopathic consultation and treatment with our experienced osteopaths.

Why not gift your friends/ family something that they can look forward to in the new year to address any niggles, aches or pain they may be experiencing. Maybe they have been giving to others and not prioritising their wellbeing and this would be the perfect opportunity to encourage them to treat themselves.

~What is cranial osteopathy? ✨

Cranial osteopathic techniques are safe, gentle and non-manipulative.

They involve the use of subtle pressure (palpation) to slowly release accumulated strains and stresses held within the head and body. The aim of cranial techniques, in releasing these areas, is to restore balance in the body, allowing all systems to work in harmony and increasing overall vitality and well-being. Our patients often report feeling more relaxed and energised following treatment.

Cranial osteopathy, despite its name, is used to treat the whole body and not just the head. Because of its subtle and gentle nature, cranial osteopathy is most commonly known for treating babies although it is also suitable for adult and elderly patients.

All of our osteopaths have extensive training in cranial osteopathy and offer this as a treatment option to patients. 🤲🏽🤲🏼

~Lines of force in the body~

As we live our lives our bodies take on different forces around them- the first, gravity, we develop the curves of our spine from our earliest years, working against/with gravity to first lift our heads, then sit and crawl then walk.

As we work, play, sit, stand our bodies are working with several lines of force that need to be in balance in order to keep us upright and functioning in an organised manner. At every moment our muscles, ligaments, joints and nervous system are working hard to make sure that our eyes are level with the horizon, that we can move in a way that is coordinated and efficient so that we can carry out our daily tasks.

In osteopathic examination and treatment we consider these lines of force - by observing how you stand/ sit/ move/ hold your head. Is your head held slightly forwards? Is the curve of your lower back taking too much strain, because other areas of your back are not moving so well? We consider the whole body and try to make sure that the musculoskeletal system is functioning so that no one area is taking on too much. If things are slightly out of balance, then an area that is not built to take force through it when the body moves, might be having to withstand quite a lot- often resulting in pain or discomfort.

We were inspired at how masterfully this spider (in picture) wove it’s web, using balance and working with the forces of gravity perfectly to create something perfectly functional!
