What a brilliant day at Westgate and Birchington Golf Club last Friday! We are pleased to share that with the support of our wonderful golfers from local businesses and clubs across Kent, we raised £4,632 to support those living with neurological conditions.

Thanks to Max from TMS Estate Agents for sponsoring the day and for his support. We'd also like to thank Saint-Gobain and The Mortgage Shop - Kent for sponsoring holes.

Our events are a great opportunity to spread the word about the work that our staff and therapists back at the Centre do to help people with MS, Parkinson's and stroke to live well.

The results of our 2025 Impact Survey are now available. The impact survey asked our members to tell us how much the therapies they have used over the last 12 months have improved their symptoms. 160 members completed the survey.

We have grouped the results according to impact - for example, 'improved balance and coordination' and 'reduced pain' - and awarded gold, silver and bronze medals to different therapies accordingly.

- 🥇Gold medals are awarded to the best overall therapy for improving a specific symptom
- 🥈Silver medals are awarded to other therapies which have 'standout' results for improving a specific symptom
- 🥉Bronze medals are awarded to those therapies which have 'strong' results for improving a specific symptom

It’s been one month since we were honoured to receive Community Charity of the Year at the Kent Charity Awards and what a month it’s been!

We’ve continued doing what we love most: connecting with our community, building partnerships and supporting those who need us. From corporate volunteering days, information events, coffee mornings and art exhibitions, our team, members and partners have been as busy as ever.

Swipe through to see just a few highlights from the past month: a reflection of what makes our community so special.

Living with a neurological condition such as MS, Parkinson’s or the effects of a stroke can bring unique emotional and mental health challenges, not just for individuals but for their carers and loved ones too.

At KMSTC, we believe that no one should face those challenges alone and as today is World Mental Health Day, we would like to highlight the support available to our members.

- One-to-one counselling - confidential and professional support when you need it most.
- Strength in Unity Support group - a welcoming space run by members, for members to discuss the challenges of living with a long term health condition (Monday and Tuesday mornings)
- NEW: Chatty Bench Coffee Morning - an informal drop-in where you can come along, grab a cuppa and have a chat about how you’re feeling - no appointment needed.

Join us for the first Chatty Bench Coffee Morning on:
Tuesday 18th November between 10am–12pm at the Centre

Our Member Services Manager Jemma and CEO Heidi were delighted to attend the Recently Diagnosed with MS Information Day organised by the MS Society UK in Paddock Wood.

Events like these are so important as they enable us to connect with other organisations supporting people living with MS and, most importantly, to meet those who are newly diagnosed. It was a great opportunity for those who have recently been diagnosed to gather information of what is available to them so that they can make informed choices about their journey with MS.

We want everyone affected by MS to know that we’re here for you, ready to provide information, understanding, and support from our therapies and expert clinical staff whenever you need it. Whether you visit us now or in the future our door is open and we can help support you to live well with MS.

Together, we can make sure no one faces MS alone.

Do come along and view our Painting Group's first exhibition here at the Centre which will be running over the next two weeks. The group meet every Monday, to paint together, relax, be creative and form friendships with each other. There are a wide range of artistic styles on display and many of the pieces are available in return for a donation to our Centre.

Jean, who is part of the group says:

"Encouraged by my son, I joined when I moved here a year ago. Such a friendly group and so relaxing. I hadn't realised how much I enjoyed painting."

Sue says:

"I love giving myself a bit of time and space to be with a wonderfully friendly group of people. I hope you like our work."

Our Centre will now be using the term Aquatic Physiotherapy in place of Hydrotherapy. This updated name better reflects the clinical nature of the treatment delivered by our qualified and experienced therapists.

What is aquatic physiotherapy?

Aquatic physiotherapy is a form of physiotherapy carried out in warm water. The properties of water, including buoyancy and resistance are used to facilitate movement, build strength and support rehabilitation goals in a safe and supportive environment.

Benefits of aquatic physiotherapy include:

- Increased muscle strength, balance, flexibility and endurance
- Reduced pain, fatigue and muscle spasticity
- Improved gait, mobility and circulation
- Stress reduction, better sleep, enhanced confidence and overall wellbeing

Our aquatic physiotherapy service is available to those living with MS, Parkinson's and stroke.

The service you know remains the same, only the name has changed to better represent the professional practice.

For more information or to book an appointment, please contact us on 01227 470876.

"On Sunday 12th October I’ll be running my first ever half marathon with David and Olly Holmes - Team Jackie’s Runners. I am really proud to support and raise funds for KMSTC as I can see the positive impact the Centre has on the people using the services and in particular the benefits that oxygen therapy gives for managing my friend Jackie's MS symptoms."

Huge thank you and good luck to Lynne, David and Olly who are running the Royal Parks to support our Centre and Jackie who uses our services to manage her MS symptoms. https://kentmstc.enthuse.com/pf/jackie-s-runners
