🧠 We all want control over our future. But what if you suddenly lost it? šŸ‘‡

When it comes to care, it’s not just about what’s needed — it’s about who decides.
And if you haven’t set up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), that choice might not be yours anymore.

We spoke with solicitor Cliona Fletcher about how LPAs help protect your dignity, wishes, and peace of mind — especially when care is delivered at home.

From small comforts to major life decisions, LPAs ensure your voice is heard — even if you can’t speak for yourself.

šŸ’™ Whether you're supporting ageing parents or planning ahead for yourself, this gentle guide is a must-read:

šŸ’™ Dementia takes memories - but it doesn’t take love.

When someone you love is living with dementia or Alzheimer’s, it can feel like they’re slipping away. But at Visiting Angels, we see the person beneath the condition - and we help families stay connected, even when words fade.

Our care isn’t just about routines and safety.
It’s about familiar faces, gentle consistency, and dignity every day.
No uniforms. No rushing. Just calm, compassionate support that feels like home.

🧔 "It's not just a drop-in. It's a community."

This Thursday, the Herne Bay Salvation Army is opening its doors for a special Open Morning—and you’re invited.

You’ll get the chance to decorate your own Jenga block—each one becoming part of a shared game that brings laughter, connection, and a bit of friendly competition to the centre.

There’ll be homemade soup, cakes, hot drinks, and most importantly, a warm, welcoming space to sit and chat. Whether you're coming along for a nibble, a natter, or just a moment of company—you’ll be met with kindness.

šŸ’¬ Come for the Jenga, stay for the community.
šŸ“ Salvation Army, Herne Bay
šŸ“… This Thursday – all welcome.

At Visiting Angels, we love shining a light on wonderful local spaces that support older people to feel connected, valued, and seen. If getting there feels like a challenge, one of our Angels can help—with transport, companionship, or just a gentle hand to hold.

Because care starts with community. šŸ’›

šŸ“šā˜• Looking for a place to sit, sip, and feel like you belong?

This week, I finally visited Chapters coffee and books - and now I understand why so many people speak so warmly about it.

Part cosy coffee shop, part independent bookshop, Chapters is also a space where real community happens. I had a lovely chat with Laura, who told me about the many ways they bring people together:
šŸ“– Book clubs and thoughtful Deep Thinkers sessions
šŸŽ¤ Author events and talks
šŸŽ² Card games, U3A meet-ups, and creative workshops for all ages

It’s the kind of place where you can strike up a conversation with a stranger, or just quietly enjoy a good read and a better coffee. No rush. No pressure. Just a space to connect - or simply be.

At Visiting Angels, we love shining a light on the places that quietly build community - where kindness, conversation, and connection come naturally.

Make a stop - they are in the Sturry High Street, next to the Pharmacy!

šŸ’š More than just bingo and tea—this community centre is buzzing with life.

Walk into Hersden Community Centre and you’ll find more than just a hall with chairs (though the welcome is as warm as the cuppa).

Yesterday I met Pat, who proudly told me about everything the centre offers the over 55s—from craft days, cross stitch and knitting, to chair yoga, art sessions, and a proper lunch club with pudding (always pudding!).

It’s the kind of place where friendships form over thread and tea bags, and laughter echoes louder than the bingo calls.

At Visiting Angels, we love shining a light on spaces where older people feel connected, active, and seen.

Let’s support the local places doing quietly wonderful things. šŸ’š

If this sounds familiar - you’re not alone.

When personal care starts to feel too personal, a little help from someone kind, calm and professional can make all the difference.

From getting ready in the morning to quiet encouragement at bedtime, our Visiting Angels support with dignity, warmth, and a smile.

šŸ”„ The heatwave is here - and it’s more than just uncomfortable.

For older adults, hot weather can quietly increase the risk of dehydration, even before they feel thirsty.

At Visiting Angels, we know it’s the little things that help—cool drinks left within reach, juicy fruit at lunch, or a gentle reminder from someone who cares.

We’ve put together some simple ways to help loved ones stay safe and hydrated during the heat.

šŸ’§ Because in this kind of heat, it’s not just about water—it’s about well-being.

We love this! šŸ’›

The Tuesday Walk & Talk is such a simple but brilliant way to bring people together - a gentle stroll, friendly faces, and time for a cuppa after. What more could you want on a Tuesday morning?

You might even spot a familiar face from our team quietly joining the walk now and then 😊

Big thanks to the Health Champions and volunteers making it all happen—community care in action.
