On Sunday June 22nd we hosted Emma Slade ( Ani Pema Deki) who gave a talk about the fascinating links between Yoga and Buddhism. it was really interesting to learn about the many similarities between the two philosophies but then the way Buddhism diverged from Yoga philosophy. Buddhas teaching focuses much more on the practice of compassion and this is less of a focus in the yogic texts.
It was great to be there in person and lots of people also benefited from the teaching by joining online. All proceeds from this event went to Opening Your Heart To Bhutan. Many thanks to all who came and contributed in any way.

What a joy it was to celebrate Summer solstice and International Yoga Day with this lovely group of people. After exploring various Salutes to the Sun and Moon with Cora Kemball-Cook we did a lovely session on the Pranava Aum with DSJ Yoga and then some pranayama to balance our energy with@Yatra Yoga UK. A delicious shared lunch followed and we sat outside and enjoyed the sun. We had a visit from Emma Slade who told us about her wonderful charity Opening Your Heart To Bhutan and many of us bought items made in Bhutan to support the charity . We had an afternoon of walking meditation and yoga nidra followed by Kirtan which was beautiful and uplifting. Everyone agreed we should celebrate International yoga day every year! All proceeds for the day went to support the disabled children that Emma supports in Bhutan.

Be Inspired by the links between yoga and Buddhism!
Sunday June 22nd 10.00 - 12.30pm
We are very honoured to be hosting this joyful event at Canterbury Yoga which will be led by Emma Slade/ Lopen Ani Pema Deki who is a well known and popular inspirational speaker.
She will be speaking about the fascinating links and contrasts between yoga and Buddhism – both of which specify a gradual eight step path to freedom from suffering. The morning will consist of teachings, discussion and advice on practice. Emma will be giving her time freely and all proceeds will go towards her charity walk across Bhutan this Autumn.
Both Buddhism and yoga have their origins in a very positive and powerful belief of what it is to be born as a human. Both offer a way to enlightenment which involves practices of body, speech and mind. Emma will clearly identify these common roots and practices in a way which will benefit everyone from the mildly interested to the highly experiences practitioner or meditator.
A handout will be provided and will be possible to attend either in person or on line to maximise the benefit to the charity. If you are attending in person, please bring a cushion and notebook and pen.
If you cannot attend and you want to support the work of the charity please visit our website where you can also donate - www.openingyourhearttobhutan.com

Cost is £30.00 in person and £20 online. To book a place go to : https://yogaandbuddhism.eventbrite.co.uk
