When I first decided on a career in Physiotherapy, I thought my path was set.
I loved helping people feel better, but over time I realised something was missing…
Many of my patients were still holding on to stress, tension & emotions that all impacted their physical ailments.
It wasn’t in my remit to address these, although I instinctively knew that I needed to if I truly wanted to help them heal 💖
⏩ Fast forward to my own burn out & recovery through aromatherapy massage.
After I got well, I found the best training course in the country & off I went to Raworth International in Surrey 🧳
The Natural Health Practitioner’s course that I enrolled on included clinical aromatherapy, Swedish & remedial massage, homeopathic first aid, nutrition, basic counselling and … reflexology.
This was the first time I’d ever heard of reflexology. My initial thought?
I have to touch people’s feet?!? 😱
I was curious. How could working on the feet possibly affect the whole body?
The more I learned, the more it made sense. Everything is connected, & of course touching the feet, with its thousands of nerve endings, is going to elicit a relaxation response.
I wasn’t convinced that it could be used clinically until I started my case studies.
One woman in her 60s was suffering from sciatica - after a few sessions she could walk without pain.
Another client thought they were fine, but their kidney reflex told me otherwise. Although we don’t diagnose, I advised her to visit her GP and tests revealed kidney stones.
Reflexology gave me a new perspective, one that felt more complete. It allowed me to bring together my background in physio with a holistic approach that honours both body and mind.
This is why I made the shift from physio to feet … and why I’m so passionate about sharing the power of reflexology today 🙌🏽
I’d love to know - are you a fan of reflexology? 🤔
