Getting enough sleep can be difficult, especially during this weather.

Protein is thought to increase the body's production of serotonin and melatonin, hormones needed to regulate sleep.

It is reported that healthy foods improve the quality and quantity of sleep, whereas consuming processed foods and foods high in sugars decreases sleep quality.

We could all try and improve our eating habits, especially if it assists with sleep.

65 % of the UK population don't drink enough water.

When the body is dehydrated it needs to work harder to execute routine processes, which causes fatigue and reduced brain function, caused due to low blood volume.

Our daily water intake depends on multiple factors to include: age, gender, activity levels, climate and overall health status.

Water is the best fluid to hydrate the body.

Other substitutes include:
Tea
Coffee
Squash (be careful of sugar levels)
Milk
Even some soups

Cancer Research reports that 37% of colon cancer survivors, who engaged in regular exercise, eight years post diagnosis, had better outcomes than those who were sedentary.

Other benefits of exercise, identified by Cancer Research are:

Keeping a healthy weight
Reducing the risk of cancer
Improving mood and reducing stress
Reducing the risk of heart disease
Reducing the risk of dementia and depression
Reducing the risk of falls in older adults
Socialising
Learning new skills

Their message is, any amount of exercise is good for you, but the more active you are the better the health outcomes.

Now offering pregnancy massage to expectant mothers.

Seat massage can be offered with mum leaning forwards on the couch, supported by pillows. A modesty towel is placed on the chest area, the back is exposed, allowing a back massage to be completed. Targated areas such as the lower back and shoulder areas can be worked on, guided by mum's wants.

If seated massage is not for you, you can side lay on the massage table, it's like being in a recovery position, again supported by support pillows. This allows massage to occur on the back, hip areas and arms.

The head rest of the couch can be elevated to 45 degrees or more, allowing mum to sit upright, allowing leg and foot massage to occur.

Each treatment will be tailored to the needs of the clients needs.

The treatment is for an hour. I also offer maternity reflexology.

Please note, for insurance purposes, I require a one line statement from your midwife, email is fine, stating that s/he approves that massage can take place. Your name and date if birth also needs to be included in the email, which ahould be sent to: becs@morethanfeet.wales

Since September 2024, I have been meeting weekly, with these amazing people, studying for my level 4 Sports Massage. Cat Palmer, is an amazing tutor and without her support and the support of the group - I could have easily bailed out.

The course is difficult, but I am so glad that I continued, as I have learnt so much, which will benefit my clients. Two essays to submit and I am there. Tonight was our last class - but we will stay in touch.

I practice Bergman Method Facial Reflexology, clients feedback has been 100 percent positive.

It is an extremely relaxing treatment, involving the stimulation of reflexology points, which can release endorphins and affect serotonin levels in the brain. Additionally, it physically relaxes the muscle structures, which can become congested.

Releasing tension in the facial muscles, improves blood flow, which eliminates toxins, allowing the lymphatic system to function better.

We know that life can become busy, headaches can occur which are often be a sign of stress. The picture below, shows some of the reflex points which can assist to reduce tension.
