Don’t forget your Vitamin C! It’s an antioxidant - protecting the skin from free radical damage. It helps brighten the skin and reduce pigmentation. Studies have also found it reduces sunburn and skin tumours.

There are lots of vitamin C serums available on the market. Be aware that Vitamin C is a highly unstable molecule and oxidizes rapidly when exposed to light or air - once oxidised it’s no longer effective. Obagi vitamin C serums have been found to be more stable, and pe*****te the skin deeper than their leading competitor (Skin Ceuticals).

Available in 10, 15 and 20% concentrations - get in touch to find out which would be best for you. Use each morning after cleansing.

And that’s not all! As well as reducing wrinkles, retinoids can also improve acne, pigmentation and dull skin.

Tretinoin was originally developed as an acne treatment but researchers found that as well as resolving breakouts, users also experienced improvements in wrinkling, pigmentation and roughness. It’s been found to boost production of collagen and remodel elastin in the skin (which break down with ageing). It also increases turnover of the surface of the skin - giving a fresh, glowing complexion.

Cosmetic brands use derivatives of tretinoin, such as retinol, retinaldehyde and retinal esters. Tretinoin itself is available prescription only so as always please get in touch to discuss what skincare options may be best for you.
