Salary negotiable for the right candidate.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Home Manager
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
1. To provide older people with a fresh, varied, appealing, wholesome and nutritious diet which is suited to individual assessed and recorded requirements at flexible times.
2. To provide refreshments and meals for relatives and NOK as and when required by the management.
3. To complete and cook to a varied menu β providing a stability and choice for the older.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) To cook, prepare, and present the above meals at the agreed times, with a minimum of waste, both of food and energy.
b) To Ensure order choice forms are collected each day from the floors (Cook or KA can collect) and to cook the required number of each portion required for each mealtime.
c) To adhere to the IDDSI framework at all times.
d) To provide each service user with three full meals each day (at least two of which must be cooked) at intervals of not more than five hours during the day.
e) To ensure that snacks are available at all times β supporting the hostess in ordering required snacks and beverages requested.
f) Consult with the home nurses, therapeutic and dietetic staff on special needs, including adequate provision of calcium, vitamin D and Low-calorie products.
g) To liaise with senior nursing staff & the older people in the production of a changing menu offering choices of meals.
h) Ensure provision of cultural or religious dietary needs as per individual care plan.
i) To ensure that the kitchen and food storage areas are kept tidy, clean and hygienic at all times to prevent food poisoning and spread of infection. Cleaning documentation to be completed as required.
j) To ensure that supplies of food and related kitchen requisites are adequate and to make sure requirements are met in good time.
k) To keep in regular contact with the nursing, care staff and older people themselves, and keep abreast of their changing likes and dislikes.
l) To participate & Support in the training of the kitchen staff.
m) To do the weekly shopping in accordance with the current menu. Completing this online where possible.
n) Ensure that the Health and Safety standards in food provision areas are met at all times.
o) To ensure that the HACCP file and all relevant paperwork is complete and up to date at all times.
p) Comply with equipment approved usage guidelines and to work in a safe manner, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
The above duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or level of responsibility held. Such variations are a common occurrence and cannot of themselves justify a post re-grade.
Requirement Essential(E) Desirable(D):
1. Education/Qualifications/Knowledge
a) The ageing process, including the physical, social and psychological needs of older people (D)
b) Dietary and nourishment needs of individuals (E)
c) Qualification in Catering Management (City and Guilds 7061 and 7062) (D)
c) Recognised certificate in respect of Hygiene control (e.g. Chartered Institute for Environmental Health) (E)
2. Experience
a) Assist in the provision of a varied and changing menu to multiple service users (E)
b) Have worked with older people including people from different cultures (D)
c) Have assisted in training of junior catering staff (D)
3. Aptitude and skills
a) Be able to communicate with service users and colleagues both verbally and written (E)
b) Be able to work in a safe manner (E)
4. Personal attributes
a) Has the ability to form good working relationships with others (E)
b) Possess a caring and patient attitude towards others (E)
c) Possess a good sense of humour (E)
5. Circumstances
a) Willing to participate in courses both internally and locally for self development (E)
b) Be available for flexible working hours including Bank Holidays, and extra hours when necessary (E)
