Are you Bad at Yoga??
People often tell me they are bad at yoga. But what does that actually mean? Here are a few things that in my opinion DON’T mean you are bad at yoga: Not being flexible, not being able to touch your toes, having dodgy knees/shoulders/hips, not being able to stand on one leg, not being able to hold a plank, having a body that doesn't adhere to a standardised western ideal, not being able to relax in savasana, feeling distracted in class, not being able to ‘empty your mind,’ being over the age of 30/40/50/60, not owning a pair of leggings, preferring crisps to avocados… I could go on but you get the gist.
So, what does it take to be ‘good’ at yoga? Apart from eating avocados (obvs). Here are a few suggestions: When you practice, are you making an effort to be present and notice what’s going on in your body and mind? (Note the word ‘effort’ not ‘achievement’)
Ummm, okay that’s just one suggestion. I tried to think of some more but that’s all I’ve got. So now you know how to be a good Yogi! (In my opinion anyway) Go forth and Yoga! X
