The importance of lifting weights & resistance exercises are vital for strong bones 🦴 , muscles & connective tissues 💪

For the brain 🧠 there is a lot going on when we exercise.
The feel good chemistry 🧪 that the body produces:

* Serotonin – this is the mood molecule, which also enhances your cognition, reward, learning, and memory.
* Dopamine – this is the motivation molecule, which encourages us to repeat nourishing experiences.
* Norepinephrine – this is the stress response molecule, which works with adrenaline to increase heart rate and keep blood pumping from the heart.

Congratulations to PB Performance Gym member Caryl ( ) who competed at the British Women’s Classic Championships last weekend! This was her first National Championship and she performed incredibly (recap below)!

Congratulations to PB Performance Gym members John ( ) and Dan (.gallagher_lifting ) who competed at the British Men’s Classic Championships last weekend! Both lifters had incredible performances (recaps below)!

What is Powerlifting? The Bench Press

The bench press is the second of the 3 lifts that make up the sport of Powerlifting (the last one being deadlift). It is also the second movement performed in any Powerlifting Competition.

The bench press is a very technical movement, even though it may look the like very simple. If done correctly, it uses not only the chest and arms but the back, core and the legs as well. It is one of, if not the, best movement(s) for building upper body.

The bench press can be broken down into four stages/phases: Initiation, Descent/Touch, Press and Lockout. Over the next few weeks we will cover these phases in more detail, including technical pointers and potential cues to improve each phase of the bench press.

The met office has issued a RED weather warning on Friday the 18th February. The storm is likely to cause significant damage and disruption due to extremely strong winds, and everyone is being urged to take care over the next few days.

As a gym we are taking a ‘safety first’ approach and therefore will be closed tomorrow morning and will reassess at 12pm. Updates will be posted throughout the day.
