// PELVIC FLOOR LOVE //

As this month turns to all things 'Woman' I want to talk about our pelvic floor. Whether your body has been through or is going through pregnancy, looking after this complex muscle is so important. Unfortunately until women start going through the childbearing stage there isn't a huge amount of focus on it. The condition of your pelvic floor affects more than just your 'bladder' - it affects your core function, posture, s*x life and ultimately your confidence ; how many of you will avoid high impact activities for fear of a leak? This is not normal and it shouldn't be normalised. Exercising your pelvic floor and supporting it can be difficult because you can't see it and many of us will exercise it incorrectly so this is why getting specialist help is imperative. If you are preconception and know you have issues ( however small) get help now ; see a woman's health physiotherapist and follow on with a qualified fitness professional. If you are pregnant or postnatal following a specific pregnancy and postnatal training regime plus seeing a woman's health physio in conjunction should be a priority. If you are past the initial postnatal phase but are still struggling then you must stop what you are doing and get specialist advice ; don't accept it as part of being a mother or a woman πŸ’• If you would like some advice please feel free to get in touch samala@fitbump.net

Today's goes out to Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, women's rights activist and educator. She was the first female student to attend the Abeokuta Grammar School and later became a teacher. She founded many organizations, including the Nigerian Union of Teachers, the Nigerian Union of Students, and the Abeokuta Ladies Club which eventually became the Federation of Nigerian Women's Societies in 1953. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and the FNWS fought against injustices and the exploitation of market women. She was a champion of expanded and equal education, suffrage, healthcare, and social position for all women. To top it all off, she was also the first woman in Nigeria to drive a car.

As I find myself juggling a busy household as a wife and a mum of two beautiful little boys, ensuring all their needs are catered for and running a business from home my mind wonders to how we as women are able to cater to others needs whilst usually neglecting our own Of course as mothers we wouldn't have it any other way! But, at times as women, no matter how full our lives may be we may have a sense of insecurity, uncertainty or even loneliness.

I feel that it's important for us as women to feel a part of a community that empowers and understands us. Therefore I'm creating a community for women that will be launching at the end of April in Cardiff where ladies of all ages can come along (babies and little ones in tow) and participate in our knowledgeable but fun and heart felt sessions covering all of our fabulous journeys as women.

Keep posted and more info will follow.
