One of the most common worries people share with us before a funeral is getting something "wrong".

Questions often come up about what to wear, where to sit, when to arrive or what to say to the family. These details can feel important when attending a funeral for the first time or when traditions are unfamiliar.

Funeral services today are often more personal and less formal than many people expect. Customs vary between families, faiths and communities.

We are there to support the family arranging the service, but we are also there on the day to help guide those attending. If you're unsure where to go or what happens next, a member of our team will always be nearby to help.

Attending a funeral is simply about showing support and respect.

Earth Day often prompts conversations about the choices we make and the impact they have over time.

Natural burials are one option some families now consider when thinking about funeral arrangements. These usually take place in woodland or meadow burial grounds, with biodegradable coffins and minimal environmental impact.

The conversation around greener funerals, like so many things, is advancing with new technologies. New approaches such as water cremations, approved in Scotland last month, show how funeral care continues to develop more sustainable options.

But many people are surprised to learn that even with a more traditional funeral service there are ways to make choices that are kinder to the planet.

We've helped families choose coffins made from sustainable materials, reduce the use of plastics and use electric vehicles. Small decisions like these can make a difference while still creating a service that feels personal and respectful.

Talking through your wishes in advance makes it easier to understand the options available and decide what matters most to you.

Families often come to us with questions about what direct cremation involves and how it differs from a traditional funeral service. One of the biggest surprises is how simple the arrangements can be.

In most cases there is no service at the crematorium, no procession and usually no opportunity to attend. The cremation take place privately, often at a time and location chosen by the provider rather than the family.

Understanding those details can help people decide whether a direct cremation truly reflects their wishes, or whether they would prefer a more traditional, but still simple farewell.

Families often want reassurance about where their loved ones will be cared for. Choosing a local funeral director means they remain with a Cardiff-based team throughout. Arrangements are made with respect and dignity, by people you can speak to directly if you have any questions. For many families, what matters most is that the cremation also takes place locally.

If you would like to talk through the options, our team is always here to guide you through any decision-making.

Organising a funeral often happens at a time when families are already coping with a great deal.

*The SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2026 found that 53% of people arranging a funeral said they felt under pressure, with 37% attributing that to 'getting things right'.

Putting a funeral plan in place gives people the opportunity to talk through any wishes ahead of time. It allows space to think about what matters most and understand the costs involved.

That might include things like travelling together in a cortege or choosing a particular church or crematorium. These are easier conversations to have when they are not rushed.

A funeral plan records those wishes and helps remove uncertainty for the people who will be making the arrangements later.

Chrysanthemums have long been associated with remembrance and are one of the flowers most often seen at funerals in the UK 💐

The connection goes back centuries. In parts of Europe they became linked with honouring the dead were traditionally placed on graves during remembrance days. Over time they became a familiar flower at funerals.

They are also one of the most practical flowers for floral tributes. Chrysanthemums hold their shape well, last longer than many cut flowers and come in a wide range of varieties and colours. That's why they often appear in wreaths, sprays and personalised arrangements.

Flowers are often more than a tribute on the day. We've helped many families create keepsakes – pressing or drying blooms after the service, creating small reminders that can be shared with family and friends.

Whether it's a simple arrangement or a larger tribute, what matters most is choosing something that reflects the person being remembered.

If you're thinking ahead or planning a funeral and would like to talk through options for floral tributes, our team are always here to help.

Happy Easter to everyone celebrating today 🐥

Over the past few weeks, Bertie's Basket has been collecting Easter eggs across our Cardiff communities, helping make sure more local children can enjoy a small treat this spring.

This year, our team donated 600 Easter Eggs, with local businesses helping us add even more to that total.

We're very grateful for the support from Premier and the Co-Op on Caerphilly Road, Morrisons on Newport Road and Spar in Llanishen Fawr.

Easter can be an expensive time for many households, particularly during the school holidays. Contributions like these help take a little pressure off and make the celebrations easier for families.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared our posts or helped Bertie keep the baskets full 🐰

Let's hope the sunshine stays... although we are heading into a Bank Holiday weekend.

The long weekend also coincides with the school half term across Cardiff – giving many families a chance to spend time together and enjoy a slightly slower pace for a few days.

To allow our team some time with their own families, our funeral homes will be closed Good Friday and Easter Monday.

But support is always available. If you need us, we remain on call 24 hours a day throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.

Wishing everyone across our communities a peaceful Easter weekend 🕊️

Direct cremation is something many people now consider when thinking about funeral plans.

According to the SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2026, 21% of funerals are described as direct cremations. While cost is often part of the decision, 51% of people choose this option because it was specifically requested by the person who died.

When making such choices it's important to find balance – between practicality, personal wishes and what matters for those left to make the final arrangements.

Before deciding, it's worth understanding what's included, and what's not:

1️⃣ There is usually no service at the crematorium
2️⃣ There may be limited choice over the day and time
3️⃣ You will not be able to visit your loved one at a funeral home - a moment that some people prefer as a private goodbye

Many local funeral directors offer direct cremation services so you don't have to use an online provider – this allows you to discuss your wishes in full and determine if a direct cremation is right for you or your loved one.

Paying for a funeral plan doesn't have to mean paying for everything at once.

For some families, details such as a cortege, flowers or a memorial matter. They help shape the day and how someone is remembered. Planning ahead gives you time to think about those choices without pressure.

There are flexible ways to put a plan in place, including options that allow payments to be spread over time.

If you'd like to understand what might suit you, we're here to talk through your options, when you're ready👇

Wordsworth's Daffodils was written after a walk in the Lake District, inspired by a moment he didn't think much of at the time.

He only wrote the poem later, from memory.

At funerals, families sometimes choose it for that same reason. Not as a traditional funeral reading, but because it reflects how grief works – memories arriving unexpectedly, bringing comfort and sadness together.

Alongside well-known funeral poems, services often include readings that mattered most to loved ones - poems learned at school, lines about nature, or words that simply feel familiar.

A poem is often chosen because it already carries meaning 💛
