You don't have to wait until someone dies to start grieving.

The release of Goodbye June has brought attention to something many people recognise, even if they've never had a word for it – anticipatory grief. The feelings that show up when someone you love is seriously ill and you're living with the waiting.

The film captures what that can feel like for families. Life carrying on alongside hospital visits. Ordinary moments sitting next to worry and uncertainty. Nothing dramatic, just the reality of being in that in-between space.

Toward the end of the film, there's a shift toward what gets said and what's harder to say aloud. The final narration takes the form of a letter, holding thoughts and feelings that don't always come easy in conversation.

For some people, it may feel familiar. For others it may simply feel honestπŸ’›

When someone is grieving, it's not always easy to know what to say.

A card can be enough. A few kind words, written down, can quietly say 'I'm thinking of you', especially if meeting up feels too much, or distance gets in the way.

It doesn't need to be perfect. Honest, heartfelt words often mean more than trying to find the 'right' thing to say.

Earlier this week, our Time to Talk post shared gentle ways to stay in touch when someone is grieving – sometimes, a card is one of the simplest ways to do that πŸ–ŠοΈ

Thank you to all the families who have sent us cards, with their thanks and well wishes – it really is appreciated πŸ’›

Shorter days and cold weather can make this time of year feel especially heavy.

Fewer chances to see people can make it harder to reach out and harder to know what to say when someone is grieving.

After a loss, conversations can feel awkward and overwhelming. People often worry about saying the wrong thing, so say nothing at all – even though staying connected can really help.

Talking doesn't have to mean long or deep conversation. It might be:

βœ‰οΈ Sending a message to ask how someone is
πŸ“± Sharing a social post that might be helpful
πŸ—“οΈ Making a simple plan to get together, something to look forward to, when they're ready

If you or someone you care about is struggling after a loss, we have bereavement support resources that can help, without pressure πŸ‘‡

Have you ever thought about leaving a gift to charity in your will?

For many people, it's a way to support care that makes a difference – not just now, but for future families too. City Hospice provides compassionate, individual support to people living with terminal illness and those closest to them, offering comfort, dignity and reassurance at the most difficult times.

It's World Cancer Day, and this year's theme, United by Uniqueness, reflects the reality that every cancer journey is different, while reminding us how important community support is – for everyone involved in that journey.

Leaving a gift in your will can help City Hospice continue their work, ensuring personalised care remains available for those who need it most.

This weekend marks the final days of the 2miles for 2wish Cymru and we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who's taken part, donated or shown their support πŸ’›

Over the month, have shared how committing to two miles a day has helped them reset, spend time outdoors (braving the rain) and feel connected to the wider community.

A big shout out to our two mile champs πŸ™Œ

Our thanks again to everyone who got involved. Your support has helped make a real difference – supporting families who have lost a child or a young adult 🐘

Today, we remember the millions of people whose lives were taken during the Holocaust and those affected by genocide since.

Remembrance is not only about looking back, but about how we live today. One thing each of us can do is choose understanding, tolerance and respect – in our communities and in our everyday lives.

By remembering together, we honour those who were lost and reaffirm our commitment to compassion and humanity πŸ’›

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday at our Believe Organ Donor Support Memorial Garden coffee morning β˜•

It was lovely to come together as a community – to talk, remember and support a space that means so much to so many families in Cardiff.

On the morning, we raised over Β£200, which will be added to our wider Movember fundraising efforts. We’re also incredibly grateful to our CEO, Gareth, who will be matching our fundraising, bringing the total raised for Believe to Β£1,200.

By coming along, you helped support the ongoing care of the garden, ensuring it remains a place of reflection and comfort for the community.

Events like this remind us how important it is to have the conversations that matter, whether that's organ donation or funeral wishes.

If you couldn't make last week's coffee morning you can still donate πŸ‘‡

A visit this week to Carnations Florist Cardiff in Llanrumney gave us a chance to say an in-person 'happy new year' to Tony and Emma.

January is often a time to reflect – on the people we meet along the way, new friendships and those steady relationships that have been there from the start.

For us, one thing that really matters is having people around us who share our values and care as deeply as we do for the families we support.

Thank you both, for the continued support, alongside so many other we're grateful to work with 🫢

A new year often brings long to-do lists and good intentions, but sometimes, doing just one thing can make the biggest difference.

Putting a funeral plan in place is one thing you can do now to take care of the future.

It's one less thing to think about, giving you more time to enjoy what matters most – time with your loved ones.

The *SunLife Costs of Dying Report (2025) found that 35% of people surveyed wanted their families 'to spend as little as possible' when the time comes. Planning ahead can help make that possible, easing both emotional and financial pressure later on.

When you're ready, our team are here to talk through the options available πŸ‘‡

When the weather turns wetter, there's something comforting about a warm cuppa and a friendly chat β˜•

This Friday, we're hosting our Believe Coffee Morning and you're more than welcome to join us. There'll be sweet treats, good conversation and a chance to come together in support of a really good cause.

If you're choosing one thing this week, it could be heading out, braving the rain and spending time with others β˜”

Today you might be reading a lot about Blue Monday.

It's a date that's become heavily commercialised, but one that can often reflect how many people are feeling during January.

For some, this time can feel heavy. Short days, long nights and grief can take their toll.

This month, we've been focusing on one thing – something small that helps get us through January.

Read what that looks like for our team πŸ‘‡

We thank them for sharing and if you feel able we welcome you to share what helps you through the month πŸ’¬

In Jewish funeral traditions, a small stone is often placed on a grave when visiting, rather than flowers.

This simple act is a lasting symbol of remembrance – one quiet way of showing respect for a loved one who has died.

We work closely with the communities we serve to respect religious beliefs, traditions and rituals. Sometimes, one thoughtful practice – observed with care – can bring comfort to families at a difficult time.

For us it's about understanding, respect and compassion – for every farewell πŸ’›
