A tool called careLeD has been launched to help people with learning disabilities access urgent health care when needed.
It is designed to help improve understanding about which service a person with a learning disability may need in an emergency, using pictures, videos, stories and quizzes.
Swansea Bay NHS Professor Neil James, a Consultant Learning Disability Nurse, was part of the team who worked with people with lived experience to co-produce this resource.
It's great to see people with a learning disability being included in projects like this one, working to break down barriers to health services when they're needed.
Are you a person with a learning disability living in Wales? Or the parent/carer of a person with a learning disability in Wales? If so Mencap Cymru want to hear from you.
Their State of the Nation Survey is important for finding out what life is like for people with a learning disability and their families in Wales and the issues being faced.
Cardiff gig buddy Richie is putting on his own fundraising gig for Gig Buddies Cymru this Saturday 19 July at The Canopi (The Sustainable Studio) in Cardiff! We're so grateful to Richie - and to promoters SLUSH CIC and 333 who are helping Richie - for organising this gig 🤩
In honour of the Anniversary of Supported Living this week, we are having a Take Over Day! Today, 17 different roles within Innovate Trust are being taken over today by brilliant, creative and hard working members of the Innovate Trust community including this one, posting on Social Media for our Marketing & Comms team. My name is Emily, and I will be sharing content with you today about all that goes on on this very different Monday.
The idea came from Annaliese who had a great experience doing a take over day with Cardiff People First. Cardiff People First gave us some great tips to help plan this special day.
Look out for stories, photos and a video down the line, as we have our first go and something that may well become a regular feature!
It is a great opportunity for learning new skill sets, building our confidence and to find out what goes on behind the scenes at Innovate Trust!

All Wales People First Board Member James has his own front door!
He moved into his own flat at the beginning of the year and he's loving having his independence.
James says he can choose where he goes and who comes to stay.
He's responsible for himself and he welcomes that responsibility.
We have two interviews with James on our Tik Tok channel - head over there to watch them!

It explains why changes to health services are needed, what people have already said, and what has already been done to improve things, like new X-ray equipment and better access to mental health support.
The document also shares ideas to make services better in the future and asks questions about what you think of the ideas. It covers hospital care, mental health services, care in the community, and services that help people stay well.
If you live in Powys, your views will help shape local health services for the future. Please send your feedback to them by 27 July 2025.

Gig Buddies Cymru debuted our brand new sensory area at Blackweir Live last night. This is one of the very few minutes (towards the end of Noah Kahan's glorious set) when the calm area wasn't been used.
The sensory area is a calming environment that features soft lighting, ear defenders, fidget toys, weighted blankets, sunglasses, eye masks, comfy seating, and more. Members of the Gig Buddies Cymru team, who are trained in neurodiversity awareness, are on hand to offer support when needed.

Creating a Wales that values and includes every child, young person and adult with a learning disability
We want all people with a learning disability to live as independently as possible in a place that they choose, and to have control over their lives.
We believe that people with a learning disability can achieve this if they, their families and the people who support them have access to the best information, advice, training and support.
We play a unique role in making this happen - through our own services, working in partnership with other organisations, and influencing policy.
How we do this
Informing - our website, Llais magazine, eNewsletter, social media, Easy Read service, conferences and events will keep you up-to-date with the latest news and issues that matter.
Educating - our projects and extensive training programme can help you to learn and develop new skills.
Influencing - we advise government and statutory bodies, including local authorities, health boards, Welsh Government, UK and European government.
Listening - we use conferences, consultation events and social media to make sure we are always engaged with the issues that matter to people with a learning disability, their families and the people who support them. You can also engage with us through more informal channels - contact us, or simply speak to us at an event.
Working in partnership
We work in partnership with:
people with a learning disability
our members
Welsh Government
service providers
disabled people's organisations
advocacy groups
statutory agencies
parent and carer organisations.
We promote real inclusion, personalisation and person-centred planning, and actively support the People First slogan: 'Nothing about us without us!'
We believe in the fundamental values of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
