Really interesting, I assume then that the response of the other senses/instincts must be far quicker to respond to danger, to keep us alive...yet we rely on our brain more...hmm so many questions about responses that are quicker triggering rage, etc... really interesting, thought provoking, work

A new study suggests that people do not see the world in real-time as the brain keeps people seeing what happened 15 seconds ago to create the illusion of stability.

It has been a long while since I posted, I have simply been so very busy.

I have had the pleasure of helping so many people in recent years, alongside offering training to colleagues....alongside my other clinical business, it has been hugely rewarding but I have taken my eye off the habits of self care.....I know, after all that I say about the importance of looking after oneself in order to help others.. đŸ€Š

I ignored the little health messages, I kept saying yes, when I should have said no, and it finally affected my health enough that, this week, I ended up in hospital...

Silly me..

Initially I kept thinking about who I needed to call to rebook, what meetings I needed to rearrange, and heard myself offering appointments within a day or 2.

Madness....I have now realised that, I need to take time to acknowledge my current health situation, I need to take time to heal and recover, and I need to respect this very loud warning....I need to look at the daily habits that haven't supported me in the life that I choose.

While I am incredibly sorry that this means I will be taking 1-2 months away from therapy and training work, and will not be able to see clients in this time, I hope that people understand, that if I do not take my wellness seriously, then I cannot offer the best of myself to others.

I look forward to offering available dates as winter comes to a close

Happy & Healthy New Year to you all

I have received quite a few requests to return to 'in person' sessions

I have, in the last few weeks agreed to this with one or 2 clients.

So I am now opening 2 more slots on Wednesday afternoons, in person.

Please can you send me a what's app message or give me a call if you would like to secure one of these.

I will still be available online for other clients on Tuesdays.

Please be advised, I am only available on these days due to significant workload throughout the week

Little prompts like this are really useful to help adults and children with ADD/ADHD, to communicate their thought processes, but also to remind themselves why they do what they do.

It's a shame that many girls and women do not realise that they may be living with ADD/ADHD, and that during certain points of the month, they can be hyper sensitive to hormonal changes.... By understanding this, they can release embarrassment, shame, and a belief that they are 'broken'

I will be starting a new podcast season soon, and I will be focusing on women's cyclical issues such as PMDD, PME, menopause alongside ADHD/ADD and how this can impact their cycle.

If you have a story that you would like to share, please get in touch so that we can discuss whether you rake part in a group or individual podcast...I'd love to hear from you x

Hi all.

I know I have mentioned Byron Katie before, and she certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea....

However I find the simplicity of 'the work' to. E so effective in training our brain to shift from one that ruminates to one that finds peace.

She has been doing a few sessions free and here is another.

I am going to be running some workshops soon, based on the work, but I will do ity way, by adapting her work and examining more about why we function the way we do,why we may be addicted to our behaviours, even when they make us unhappy, and how techniques.like the work can help us to train ourselves to simply let go.

In the interim, here is BK

Please partner with us, in our ongoing commitment to end suffering, by donating to our scholarship program for the School for The Work. Your donations support us to cover on-site hotel and food expenses for scholarship recipients, while BKI grants their tuition.

I haven't posted for a while, so much noise, and so many experts telling us how to be....

The reality is survival mode can be all encompassing and I felt I had no pearls of wisdom to add that could genuinely help in generic terms.

I have preferred to simply hear people when they needed to be heard, whilst also balancing my own life and responses to this year's madness.

As soon as I heard a different voice and found something that I found truly impactful I thought I would share it . .

You will be glad to know it's not about how to be in a pandemic....

It is simply how learning the ability to love ourselves and find our reason to let go of the negative ties that bind us....I say simply, let's face it, it is a complex web that exists within and around us, but this powerful human is so poetic and informed that I wanted to share her voice.

I am grateful for finding this today and I hope you enjoy what she has to say, something which impacts so many isms we not only believe about ourselves, but about others ..

I hope that we can find the inner peace that can then resonate throughout who we become, how we behave and how we connect with each other xx

Have you ever fallen in to an argument cycle with your child that ends up with everyone feeling wiped out, angry, and defensive?

Have you ever considered how many times a day you use the word don't?

When Dr Kate Beaven-Marks suggested that we stop using this word, I immediately realised how many times I had said it just that morning....

Have you ever stopped and observed your negative self talk?

Kate pulled me up short a few times with her simple techniques that can help you to create new habits while building your own self esteem and in turn that of your children

She is just fab... if you are a therapist and wonder what training you would like to add to your bucket list, make sure Kate is on that list

This week I'm chatting with Dr. Kate Beaven-Marks, an expert in hypnotherapy, and so many other modalities such as EMDR. Kate joined me to discuss Communication, and how improving communication, and our internal dialogue can make change to so many areas of life, not just for us but also or our child...

A friend shared this and I think it is such a great message .. sometimes the 'shoulds' in life overwhelm us....who decided we should, when was it decided?

Do what you need to, when you feel overwhelmed by the human responses to life's tricky times....

If you focus on what you should do, should be, how you should feel, you will just end up shoulding all over yourself and that helps nobody...

Run the dishwasher twice today xx

RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.

When I was at one of my lowest (mental) points in life, I couldn’t get out of bed some days. I had no energy or motivation and was barely getting by.
I had therapy once per week, and on this particular week I didn’t have much to ‘bring’ to the session. He asked how my week was and I really had nothing to say.
“What are you struggling with?” he asked.
I gestured around me and said “I dunno man. Life.”
Not satisfied with my answer, he said “No, what exactly are you worried about right now? What feels overwhelming? When you go home after this session, what issue will be staring at you?”
I knew the answer, but it was so ridiculous that I didn’t want to say it.
I wanted to have something more substantial.
Something more profound.
But I didn’t.
So I told him, “Honestly? The dishes. It’s stupid, I know, but the more I look at them the more I CAN’T do them because I’ll have to scrub them before I put them in the dishwasher, because the dishwasher sucks, and I just can’t stand and scrub the dishes.”
I felt like an idiot even saying it.
What kind of grown ass woman is undone by a stack of dishes? There are people out there with *actual* problems, and I’m whining to my therapist about dishes?
But my therapist nodded in understanding and then said:

“RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.”

I began to tell him that you’re not supposed to, but he stopped me.
“Why the hell aren’t you supposed to? If you don’t want to scrub the dishes and your dishwasher sucks, run it twice. Run it three times, who cares?! Rules do not exist, so stop giving yourself rules.”
It blew my mind in a way that I don’t think I can properly express.
That day, I went home and tossed my smelly dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher and ran it three times.
I felt like I had conquered a dragon.
The next day, I took a shower lying down.
A few days later. I folded my laundry and put them wherever the f**k they fit.
There were no longer arbitrary rules I had to follow, and it gave me the freedom to make accomplishments again.
Now that I’m in a healthier place, I rinse off my dishes and put them in the dishwasher properly. I shower standing up. I sort my laundry.

But at a time when living was a struggle instead of a blessing, I learned an incredibly important lesson:

THERE ARE NO RULES.
RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE!!!

It's ok to feel broken.

It's been a long arse year and some of us have been battered from every direction, loss of loved ones, loss of income, loss of emotional stability, loss of connection...

We have all been trying to maintain a level of equilibrium for so long, trying to say it's ok, I'm ok, people out there are worse off.

It's ok to sometimes step down from the treadmill, to find a quiet space, to say you are exhausted.

Saying it can be the start of healing it, because sometimes when we feel that broken we are making way for a deeper level of healing and the sooner we accept, we can make way for the healing to begin.

You are not being indulgent, you are not being weak, you are not less than, you have just been trying to be ok for so long, trying to grasp at the branches to pull you in....

It's ok, it is brave to allow yourself to break open, in order to let the healing in.

If you need to talk, do, if you need space, take it, if you need to say stop, then stand down.... Everything can wait for another day x

Who I am and What I do

My Clients say that I am a compassionate, knowledgeable, tenacious, non judgemental and Outcome focused therapist who they trust to help them to understand why they struggle with the issues that they do.

My goal is Help you to move through the symptoms holding you back, whilst also understanding the core issue and giving you skills to deal with the challenges that life throws at you.

Many of my clients with phobias or similar can find a solution in just 1 session, for others with more complex Fears, Anxieties, Addictions, pain and grief usually benefit from several sessions where we understand the cause, change the feelings associated with it and support you to gently rebuild who you will now become.

I ask all clients to be honest with me so that I can best help you; your sessions are not about me they are about you, so I ask that you never tell me what you think I want to hear but what you really feel, experience and think, only then can I ensure that I use the right techniques together to help your unique quest to developing mind balance
