The word Kundalini literally translates as a “coiled female serpent.” It is like a coiled spring of potential (life-force) energy and in this practise we prepare and invite it to gently awaken and rise up the "Chakra" energy vortexes along the spine, to bring us into closer alignment with our true purpose, our true self, our Sat Nam. KundAlini Yoga (as taught by Ali) is an empowering and enjoyable practise of stretching, balancing, dancing, shaking, postures, breath-work, sounding, body locks, sharing, laughter, light-heartedness, authenticity and community. Raising our energy means raising our vibration, which enhances our physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing, it can be challenging and its also a lot of fun! You simply meet the practise where you are, and that's always perfect! No leotards or lycra required, just wear really comfy loose layers of clothes :)
KundAlini yoga is particularly helpful for managing stress, clearing your mind, finding focus and embracing the ebbs and flows of life with grace and dignity, and authenticity! Emotions (energy in motion) are meant to be moved through your body until they are no longer present, otherwise they cause intense stress which breaks down the systems of the body, manifesting themselves as discomfort and 'dis-ease'. The human psyche is bombarded with information non-stop through the internet and social media (often emotional manipulation) : words are like spells 'spelling' which when repeated become mantras, and mantras manifest themselves! Without a buffer zone for the mind, this data acts as 24/7 bombardment and can cause mental overload- what we call “stress”. So be mindful of what you listen to, and what you say if you want to maintain authority over what you are vibrating, and therefore calling in to your energy field. This practise is about making decisions and choices about your path in life, based on your own personal research, experience and most importantly your intuition. What mantra are you repeating, subjecting yourself to, or aligning with? Remember, ‘Say it and it will be so.’
In kundAlini yoga as taught by Ali, through yoga, meditation and mindfulness, a "buffer zone" of the mind can be developed - a filter system/shield that you are in complete control of. In my experience kundalini is a fast and effective way to build , maintain and repair your shield, your personal "superpower" if you like which will filter out the media manipulation, gossip and distraction, and enable you to see beyond the surface.
