Some children show patterns of behaviour that can make communication, learning, or social situations more challenging for them. During autism assessments, there are certain signs we often notice in children who later receive a diagnosis.
We want to make it clear that by seeing some of these signs does not mean your child is autistic. Children develop in many different ways, and there is a wide range of what is typical.
However, for some children, understanding how their brain works can be incredibly helpful. A diagnosis can support access to appropriate adjustments, clearer support at home or school, and a deeper understanding of your child’s strengths as well as their needs.
That’s why we share this information. Not to label, but to help families recognise when it might be useful to ask questions.
If you recognise several of these signs and feel unsure, reaching out for advice can be a helpful first step. You don’t need to have everything worked out before you do.
You don’t have to figure this out on your own 🤍
