Nominations are now open for the inaugural elections to the National Pharmacy Advisory Councils of the new Royal College of Pharmacy.

The three National Pharmacy Advisory Councils for England, Scotland and Wales will contribute to the development of the Collegeโ€™s strategy and support its delivery within each nation.

Additionally each council, and its elected members, will be responsible for:
โ€ข Developing pharmacy policy and practice in their nation
โ€ข Supporting professional development activity in their nation
โ€ข Engaging with members and representing the College

Diolch i bawb a fynychodd lansiad Rhwydwaith Fferyllfeydd Cymru newydd neithiwr!

Roedd yn wych gweld bron i 50 o fferyllwyr a myfyrwyr fferylliaeth yn ymuno รข ni yn yn Abertawe, gyda llawer mwy yn ymuno ar-lein.

Clywsom araith gymraeg wych gan Andrew Evans, Prif Swyddog Fferyllol Llywodraeth Cymru, a chawsom safbwyntiau defnyddiol gan Y Gymdeithas Feddygol sydd wedi'i hen sefydlu.

Thank you to everyone who attended the launch of the new Welsh Pharmacy Network last night!

It was great to see nearly 50 pharmacists and pharmacy students join us in person in Swansea, with many more engaging online.

We heard from Andrew Evans, the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for the Welsh Government, and gained vital perspectives from the long-established Y Gymdeithas Feddygol (the society for doctors).

Most importantly, the evening provided an opportunity for everyone to contribute their views and discuss exactly what they would want and need from the new network. These thoughtful contributions will be instrumental for the steering group as they consider how to take the network forward.

Thanks also to the 'Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol' for providing the initial funding that made this launch possible.

RPS Wales Board Members Helen Davies and Liz Hallett recently gave evidence to the Seneddโ€™s Health and Social Care Committee inquiry into the future of general practice in Wales.

They highlighted pharmacistsโ€™ vital role in improving patient safety, managing patients with complex needs, and supporting those with long-term conditions,

Meanwhile they called for more time for training, better workforce planning, and stronger integration across the health system.

From this month, almost every community pharmacy in Wales can now provide free NHS treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) as part of the Common Ailments Service. This is a significant step forward in enabling pharmacists to use their clinical expertise to improve access to care.

Our Board member, Lowri Puw, spoke to BBC Radio Wales about what this means for the profession. She highlighted the key role pharmacists play in patient care, the importance of raising public awareness of the service, and how this reflects the growing contribution of pharmacy to the wider NHS.

Lowri also stressed that support for training and fair funding for community pharmacies must follow if the service is to be delivered sustainably.
