SATTVA EMBODIES THE QUALITIES OF BALANCE, CLARITY, GOODNESS, POSITIVITY, TRUTH, SERENITY, PEACEFULNESS, AND LUCIDITY.

Jo Bogacz, Founder Member of the Yoga Therapy Association, identifies, “At the heart of the Yoga Therapeutic Process lie four essential skills: self-awareness, active listening, good communication, and empathy/compassion.” These skills are the foundation of effective therapy sessions. By attentively listening to our clients without judgment and responding with empathy and compassion, we create a safe space for them to explore their needs and emotions.

Jo, who runs her Yoga Therapy Practice from Cardiff, Wales, encourages us to include self-compassion in our own practice to help us cultivate a sattvic mind and act as an example to our clients. She advises us to :

o Be fully present, and
o Embrace deep listening when with our clients.

Jo says: “During Yoga Therapy sessions, it's crucial to be fully present and give our clients undivided attention. ‘Taking your seat’ will help you feel rooted and grounded in your sessions and foster a sense of safety and support.”

Jo goes on to elaborate: “An intuitive and sensitive approach towards clients and their needs ideally flows from a place of inner quiet where the Yoga Therapists’ own conditioning/disturbances are minimised. Being actively listened to is a very healing space for clients and offers an opportunity for the clients’ natural self to express. The settled sattvic mind of a Yoga Therapist needs to be in receiving mode and uncluttered when with clients so that they are not driven to find solutions. In this attentive space, held with care and compassion, deep listening is always more effective than fixing problems.”
