Something I often notice is how difficult it can be to truly wind down — even when the day is over.

Our bodies can still be holding onto everything we’ve carried, even when we’re ready to rest.

This short movement practice focuses on the unwind part of the process — offering a few simple, creative ways to slow things down, release tension, and soften back into the body.

You don’t need any movement experience. Just a bit of space, and a willingness to move gently and notice what’s there.

In my work, I’m often reminded that unwinding isn’t something we can force — it’s something we allow. And sometimes, even a few minutes of intentional movement can help create that shift.

This might be something to return to at the end of the day, or whenever you notice things building up.

I’d love to know — what helps you unwind when your body is still holding onto the day? 🌙

Between September and November last year, I had the opportunity to be part of a project exploring how creative movement can support people navigating menopause — and the impact was powerful to witness.

MenoMove was a 12-week programme bringing people together through dance and movement, both in person and online, with participants joining from across Wales and beyond.

What stood out most was how these sessions supported not just movement, but a growing sense of energy, connection, and body awareness. Participants spoke about feeling more able to regulate emotions, manage symptoms, and reconnect with their bodies in ways that felt supportive and affirming.

Just as importantly, the group space itself became something meaningful — a place where people could share experiences, feel less alone, and build a sense of trust and psychological safety together.

The programme was delivered by The Body Hotel CIC in partnership with Arts Council of Wales and health partners, as part of a wider conversation around creative health and menopause care in Wales.

We’ve now shared the full evaluation, which brings together these experiences alongside creative and research-based insights.

If you’re curious about how movement, creativity and health can intersect — especially in relation to menopause — you can read the full report via the link in bio (or head to the WAHWN knowledge bank).

We here at The Body Hotel would like to announce our new director - Stewart Eyres!
As an inclusion specialist Stewart delivers informed, expert consultancy for a range of clients, including universities, professional bodies and industry. His unique mix of academic insight, experience with research and education, knowledge of inclusive cultures and practices, and industry-relevant experience, equip him with the ability to engage with people (clients, staff, students, members or beneficiaries). Coupled with interrogating data, objectively reviewing practice and culture, he makes informed, actionable recommendations for change.

Bio:

As the first in his family to attend university, Stewart has always championed widening participation in higher education. After completing his degree project with an inspiring lecturer, he went on to complete a MSc and PhD in radio astronomy and entered an academic research career. With a belief that science should be open to anybody, he pioneered distance learning developments, establishing the world’s first BSc (Hons) Astronomy by distance learning. Beyond this he contributed to or coordinated multiple science communication and public engagement projects, reaching many thousands of people.

In leadership roles since 2009, Stewart continued to prioritise inclusive practice as a researcher, educator and leader, nurturing talent and embedding innovative approaches to delivering student success. His commitment to social impact continued with significant support across his School for major initiatives including the Lancashire Science Festival. Becoming a director with the Body Hotel is a natural extension of that commitment.

Body Hotel:

Having followed the development of Body Hotel from its inception, I’m excited to be able to contribute as a Board member. I’ve found dance movement psychotherapy incredibly helpful in my own life, and I am looking forward to helping extend its benefits through the company. To be able to support Thania and the team is a privilege.

So why is movement so important for connecting our communities? Let me explain in this video now!

A couple of weeks ago we led a workshop with Glitter Cymru this past weekend, using movement and props to represent our community and how we are all interlinked!

Glitter is a community based organisation for ethnically diverse LGBTQ+ people organising meetups, advocacy and community events. They are a longtime partner of The Body Hotel

It is such a joy to see so many different people getting involved with our projects and moving together with us 🙂

Have you had a super busy March without a chance to rest, pause and reconnect with yourself?

This Saturday, I’ll be holding a Self Care Saturday workshop — a gentle, creative space to step out of daily life and check back into your body.

Together we’ll explore movement as a way to energise, recharge and unwind, while also reflecting on what it means to truly nurture ourselves. There’ll be space for creativity, play, and simply being — as well as the chance to connect with others in person.

You don’t need any movement experience. The session is open to all abilities, and the space is inclusive and wheelchair accessible.

🕙 Saturday | 10am–1pm
University of South Wales

If you’ve been feeling the need for a pause, or a different kind of reset, you’d be very welcome to join us

Something I often notice in my work is how easy it is to lose connection with our bodies, especially when we’re working or busy caring for others.

This creative movement resource is an invitation to gently check in with yourself, even for a few minutes.

Developed with Arts Council of Wales as part of the Cultural Cwtsh wellbeing hub, these simple, guided exercises are designed to help you energise, recharge or unwind through movement.

Dance experience isn’t necessary just the willingness to try something new. Whether it’s a quick body check-in or a short creative reflection, the aim is to support awareness, confidence, and a moment of pause in the day.

As caring professionals, it can be difficult to prioritise our own wellbeing. But often, our bodies are already telling us what we need — movement can help us listen.

When was the last time you paused to check in with your body?

Thank you to Arts Council Wales and Hapus for making this possible - these tools are available for free on the Hapus.Wales website

Was great to attend the National Framework for Social Prescribing Showcase. Great to share thoughts and dreams for social prescribing with arts in health experts, Body Hotel Lodgers and leading researchers in this field. Lots of hope for communities and social prescribing. Its definitely the way to go!
