St John Ambulance Cymru Cardigan

St John Ambulance Cymru Cardigan Wales' Leading First Aid Charity - Providing first aid training and event medical cover throughout Cardigan and the surrounding areas.

As the nation's leading first aid charity, we offer training and support to people across Wales. Care to those in need is free but it costs us as a charity to provide it. We receive no core government funding and rely on private donations and income from first aid training to fund our charitable works.

St John People from our Radyr Division were recently invited to a barbeque by the Radyr and Morganstown Association as a thank you for supporting the group's fundraising efforts during their annual festival in May.

We are extremely grateful to have been named the RMA's charity of the year for 2025 and as a result were presented with a cheque for the £6,000 raised so far, with further events still to come before the year is out! Diolch o galon!

A Cheque for £6000 was presented to St John Ambulance Cymru last night for monies raised during the R&M May Festival

Our are out in communities all over Wales this Bank Holiday Weekend people need first aid. Diolch pawb!

Today, our team is out in Brecon supporting a fantastic charity event in aid of two incredible causes – Tŷ Hafan and Freddie’s Sunshine Fund at Bristol Children’s Hospital. 🌟

It’s also a special day as we welcome two of our newest members, starting their volunteer journey alongside our experienced team. 👏

From charity football to ice cream, bouncy castles and more, there’s something for everyone – all while raising money for such worthwhile charities. ⚽🍦🎈

We’re also delighted to see our friends Gwasanaeth Tân ac Achub CGC / MAWW Fire and Rescue Brecon joining the fun with their fire engine on show. 🚒

A brilliant day of community, teamwork, and giving back! 💙

Some top tips on how to stay safe and help keep our emergency services over this bank holiday and beyond!

🚑 This Bank Holiday, please help us protect our services for genuine life-threatening emergencies.

Here’s how you can help:
✅ Pick up repeat prescriptions in advance
✅ Keep a first aid kit at home
✅ Use NHS 111 Wales💻, your GP, pharmacy, or Minor Injury Units for non-emergencies
✅ Check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours

💡 You can also use the new NHS 111 Wales virtual assistant to help you find the right advice quickly.

🚗 If you’re driving:
• Always wear a seatbelt
• Stick to speed limits
• Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Stay focused and avoid distractions

Let’s work together and make sure our ambulances are there for those who need them most. ❤️

Our love taking the opportunity to pass on lifesaving skills at community events, so it's particularly rewarding to hear such positive feedback!

We welcome any initiative that raises awareness of CPR and defibrillator skills, as early intervention in the event of a cardiac arrest is so vital. Our have put these skills into action to save two lives in the past few months alone, which demonstrates the real-life impact first aid can have.

We help 15,000 people gain lifesaving skills each year and would encourage anyone who wants to learn more to sign-up to one of our first aid courses or become a St John volunteer today.

Our have had the honour of supporting a range of events to commemorate this week.

These words from the 1945 Order of St John Annual Report are particularly poignant as we remember the sacrifices that were made by so many.

Dyfed Cadets attended a County Camp with their Youth Leaders over the weekend. As well as learning some outdoor first aid skills, they also completed work towards their ‘Adventure’ subject and ended with some canoeing and kayaking on the River Teifi.

We would like to thanks the County Youth Team for arranging this amazing activities for our cadets.

After an action-packed three days, our St John Ambulance Cymru volunteers from Aberystwyth Town and St John Ambulance Cymru Aberystwyth LINKS, supported by members from across Dyfed County, wrapped up another incredible Superteams weekend!

Today’s focus was all about endurance, resilience, and teamwork as competitors pushed through the Campus Mile—a gruelling test of stamina made even tougher by the wind and rain. The weather may have been challenging, but that didn’t stop the athletes from giving it their all!

The big finale? The infamous Mystery Event, featuring 12 unpredictable challenges that tested strength, agility, and strategy. The highlight? The legendary gunk tank, where teams battled to stay dry (spoiler: most failed spectacularly!). 🌊💨

💪 Huge shoutout to our volunteers who braved the elements to keep competitors safe, supported, and in the game. From first aiders gaining hands-on experience to advanced responders managing more complex cases, their dedication made all the difference. Whether it was patching up injuries, providing reassurance, or simply standing strong in the rain, they were ready for anything!

🚑 Want to be part of something amazing? Volunteering with St John Cymru means learning lifesaving skills, supporting major events, and becoming part of a fantastic team. Whether you’re completely new to first aid or looking to build on your skills, we have a role for you!

Get involved today—come rain, wind, or gunk, we’ll be there!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We are looking to increase our Community Trainers, and are currently applying for a grant to help cover these costs.
If successful, this will mean we have greater availability to send a trainer to schools, community groups and non-profit organisations to deliver FREE first aid awareness training.

As part of the grant application, we need to demonstrate there is a need for this through community consultation and engagement.
So, please take a few moments to complete our online form below so that we can gather lots of evidence to support our grant application.

Thank you so much in advance, and please feel free to share this far and wide with others - together we can save more lives.
