What a fabulous weekend.
I've been away with some wonderful school friends who I've known for over 30 years, and had a wonderful catch-up, and tonight, I'm being accompanied by another wonderful friend to The Best Of Welsh Business Awards in Cardiff, where, miraculously I am a finalist!!! Wowee!

DERMATOME

Having trouble memorizing the dermatomes? Thinking about them from an evolutionary perspective may help!?

‪This picture shows a great way to define a dermatome!‬

Medical definition of a dermatome: “A dermatome is an area of skin that is mainly supplied by a single spinal nerve. There are 8 cervical nerves (C1 being an exception with no dermatome), 12 thoracic nerves, 5 lumbar nerves and 5 sacral nerves. Each of these nerves relays sensation (including pain) from a particular region of skin to the brain.

A dermatome also refers to the part of an embryonic somite.

Along the thorax and abdomen the dermatomes are like a stack of discs forming a human, each supplied by a different spinal nerve. Along the arms and the legs, the pattern is different: the dermatomes run longitudinally along the limbs. Although the general pattern is similar in all people, the precise areas of innervation are as unique to an individual as fingerprints.

A similar area innervated by peripheral nerves is called a peripheral nerve field.”

Today is Menopause Awareness Day.
Did you know that Menopause can last anywhere from 5 months, to 15 YEARS!! Everyone is different. The average age for reaching menopause is 50, but some can be much much younger.
The symptoms of menopause include (but are not limited to :
Difficulty concentrating
Weight gain
Dizzy spells
Bloating
Stress incontinence
Brittle nails
Allergies
Irregular heart beat
Body odour changes
Irritability
Panic disorder
Osteoporosis
Hot flushes
Night sweats
Irregular periods
Mood swings
Vaginal dryness
Decreased libido
Headaches
Breast soreness
Burning mouth
Joint pain
Digestive problems
Muscle tension
Electric (static) shocks
Gum problems
Tingling extremities
Itchy skin
Fatigue
Anxiety
Disrupted sleep
Hair loss
Memory lapse/brain fog
Tinnitus.
