Last few things to do before our hedgehogs are released

02/10/2025

Wight biodiversity has been working hard over the last year getting our resident hedgehogs and their new GIANT enclosure ready for their release here at Carisbrooke Priory. We would like to thank all that have been involved from the head garden, some of the volunteers and more importantly, the students that have planned and executed this along with various research projects on topics affecting this wonderful species. WELL DONE!
Here's a quick short from the guys @ the Animal Conservation program on YouTube.

The A.C.P program have been working on ways to improve their content and thought processes whilst creating content. Last week we worked on mind mapping.
Mind mapping uses keywords and learnt/existing knowledge ( including other things) to organize thoughts, improve memory, and make complex subjects easier to plan and execute. Not only will this help in our thursday sessions, it boosts confidence and is a transferable skill that can be used outside this sessions.

With water being a hot topic, users took today to look at our existing pond here at Carisbrooke priory.A huge discussion was held and using all learnt knowledge form over the last few months, have started looking at how and why the pond should be improved to help boost the local biodiversity. These plans will be shared with the inhouse gardening team and help with funding has also been discussed.
This helps with reading and writing skills amoungst others whilst highlight proof of learning.

One user helped to identify uk aquatic species by book ( unprompted ) instead of the internet.

Tuesday afternoon users getting hands on with the management of our Toad conservation project. Having a chance to learn about the life cycles and ecology of species through various forms of monitoring. Please remember guys, if you are raising amphibians inside for educational purposes, they should ALWAYS be returned to the pond they came from. This helps to minimise the spread of disease effecting these beautiful animals.
