Heartbreaking

We have received an URGENT request from Sindhoor Pangal in India.
This is a heartbreaking situation for the street dogs in India, please help.

From Sindhoor:
Here's what is going on in India.
India’s Supreme Court is pushing for the “removal” of street dogs with no plan for what happens to them. With nearly 60 million free-living dogs, this is impossible and dangerous. We lack the infrastructure to house them, and removal dismantles public-health safeguards.

Community dogs act as a buffer between humans and other animals. They are easy to vaccinate and sterilise, creating stable, healthier populations. Removing them creates ecological vacuums, increases conflict, and breaks herd immunity. Dog populations rebound quickly—unvaccinated, unsocialised, and higher risk for bites and rabies. Mass sheltering only creates overcrowded biohazard zones.
Despite clear evidence, the courts are dismissing science, making unscientific remarks (see below), and proposing an unworkable solution—while municipalities without capacity are pushed into chaos.

This is dangerous policy-making.

The judges bizarre comments:
“A dog can always smell a human who is afraid of dogs. It will always attack when it senses that. We are talking from experience”

“How can you identify which dog is in what mood in the morning, you don’t know”

“Only missing thing is providing counselling to the dogs as well. So that he does not bite when released back”

What I need from you this weekend: point out how ridiculous the comments of the Supreme Court judges, for disregarding science and having no clear plan for their proposed, unrealistic move.

Please comment tagging -

This needs to happen well before our court hearing on Tuesday morning, so that we can shame the judges into seeing how ludicrous their plan is. I need your help to do that.
Please help!

Has your dog got a lazy bum? 😂❤️🐾 Learn more about the gluteal muscles below

Do you and your dog share a physical resemblance? It sounds like a strange question, but hear us out!

Just like humans, dogs can develop what's often called a "lazy bum"—meaning their gluteal muscles are underactive. This can be caused by biomechanical imbalances or discomfort, which eventually forces other muscle groups to compensate and become dominant.
We will be exploring this more in our next post, so keep following!

Our 'Tongue to Tail' series continues with a focus on the hip flexor group, which includes the Iliopsoas, Re**us Femoris, Sartorius, and Tensor fasciae latae muscles.

These muscles are responsible for flexing the hip joint and bringing the thigh forward towards the abdomen, initiating the next stride once the leg is off the ground.

If you have noticed any discomfort when your dog extends their hip (perhaps they no longer stretch out their back legs like they used to); they have a shortened stride length or are lame; there could be a muscular imbalance, which is always worth investigating.

❤️🐾Choice-Led Therapy – With Your Dog’s Consent ❤️🐾

Every session at Wight Canine Therapy follows the Galen Myotherapy PACT® ethos — the Positive Progressive Affective Cycle of Therapy — a truly choice-led approach where your dog’s comfort always comes first.

Some dogs, especially nervous or foreign rescues, just need a little extra time to build trust and confidence. That’s okay — I always work with your dog, never on them.

By allowing them to choose when and how we begin, they relax more deeply — and a calm, trusting dog gains the greatest physical and emotional benefits from treatment. 🐾

🎆 Helping Your Dog Cope with Fireworks

Fireworks season can be terrifying for our dogs — especially rescues who’ve already faced scary or unpredictable experiences. Here are some ways to help keep them calm, safe, and supported:

🏡 1. Create a Safe Den

Set up a cosy “hideaway” before fireworks start — a quiet room or covered crate with blankets, toys, and familiar scents.

Let them choose where they feel safest — don’t force them out if they hide.

🎧 2. Drown Out the Noise

Play calming music, white noise, or TV to mask the sounds.

Close curtains and windows to reduce flashes and bangs.

🕯️ 3. Keep Things Calm

Stay relaxed yourself — dogs pick up on our stress.

Try gentle reassurance in a calm voice, but avoid over-fussing if they’re trying to settle themselves.

🐶 4. Use Natural Calming Aids

Adaptil diffusers or collars can help.

Consider calming treats, supplements, or a vet-approved remedy if they’re especially anxious.

🚶‍♀️ 5. Walk Early

Give them a long walk before dark so they’ve exercised, toileted, and can rest more easily when fireworks begin.

💌 6. Keep Them Secure

Double-check gates, leads, and collars — frightened dogs can bolt.

Keep ID tags and microchips up to date, just in case.

💓 7. Comfort Is Key

If your dog wants cuddles, offer them. If they want space, respect that.

Sometimes your calm presence is the biggest comfort of all.

The anticlinal vertebra is the point in your dog’s spine where the angle of the spinous processes (those bony bumps you can feel along the back) changes direction.

In dogs, this is usually found around T11 (the 11th thoracic vertebra).
Above this point, the spinous processes tilt backward, and below it, they tilt forward — forming a kind of “peak” or “hinge” in the spine!

It represents a zone of transition where spinal motion and stress distribution change, which can be relevant when we think about fitting harnesses on dogs.

Keeping our dogs healthy starts with understanding what makes their bodies unique, fromTongue to Tail!
