Embracing The Wild: A 2-hour women's group held in-person and online through autumn.

Let's sit around the campfire and process what it is like to be together in the moment as well as what emerges from this togetherness. An opportunity for sharing stories and experiences, learning from others and for personal growth.

We will intend to hold this space using the core conditions: acceptance, empathy and genuineness.

I look forward to being with and learning from you.

Autumn dates released soon.

Contact me via my website to learn more and to reserve your place.

I am really pleased to announce that David Murphy and I have had our article published in the journal PCEP. This pilot research study shows how women's experience of eating distress can be understood using person-centred experiential theory, rather than solely as a medicalised diagnosis. Gratefully the article has been published open access so you can read it in full if you click the link below.

Person-centered experiential (PCE) psychotherapists work with the phenomenology of client experience from within their client’s frame of reference. Consequently, PCE theory does not provide proscri...

Re-watched 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' the other day and it got me a lot more than it did the previous time I watched it.

Not only is it a beautifully crafted piece of cinema, but a genuine reminder of what it takes to change the direction of our lives. How so often it is simply a choice to take courageous steps towards the unknown and how meaningful connections with others can support us in our process.

I do not own nothing.

Eating distress is a terrifying, painful and debilitating experience. A large part of the therapeutic process in exploring that experience, is identifying what the distress is communicating, understanding it's intentions, working with fear and remembering even though you feel trapped, you can choose to think and live differently.

If you are struggling with eating distress and would like to pursue support, please contact me on info@johannalakinpsychotherapy.com

I'm really pleased to share that I will be offering group therapy within the Carlisle, Cumbria area starting this summer. I have seen and witnessed how the sharing of time, experiences and emotions with others can be a wonderful way to learn and grow.

I will be offering groups with different themes which correspond to the varied aspects of human experience and what is required to promote emotional wellbeing. The first group will be aimed at people who feel weighed down by critical self-talk and the impact this is having on their day-to-day lives.

If you're over 18 and are interested in participating, please contact me directly on info@johannalakinpsychotherapy.com, no referral needed. Look forward to hearing from you.

A wonderfully made example of how self-criticism affects us all.

You don't have to be a rock climber to have been on the receiving end of some of the self-critical comments expressed in this video. Yet an inspiration to know that whatever your self-talk, there are ways through and out of it's overwhelming dominance. Remembering to being kinder and gentler to yourself is a good way to begin.

Experience fear and emotion alongside climber Jenny Abegg as she ascends a route while fighting the self-criticism and doubt from that little voice we all ha...
