A slightly different kind of weekend summary today, because over the weekend, ‘imposter syndrome’ became part of the conversation…
For many of our learners, stepping back into education while balancing full-time work, family life and other commitments is already a huge achievement in itself. Add to that the challenge of preparing to step into a completely new industry, and it’s understandable that self-doubt can creep in.
One of our learners opened up about feeling this way over the weekend, and what followed was a reminder of just how special this group is! The support, encouragement and reassurance from both the tutor and fellow learners was incredible…and there was one common, underlying message: caring deeply about doing well is exactly why these feelings show up in the first place!
Imposter syndrome often appears when people are pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone, into something new, whilst still holding themselves accountable to preexisting high standards. In our opinion it actually reflects self-awareness, professionalism and (in this case) a genuine desire to do right by future clients…and that’s something to be proud of!
‘True growth begins at the end of your comfort zone’ (Neale Donald Walsch, n.d.).
