Moving more is good for our mental health, so what's stopping us?

During , let's talk about the often-overlooked connection between chronic pain, unaddressed injuries, and mental well-being.

Regular physical activity is known to improve mental health, quality of life, and wellbeing. It also helps prevent and treat heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and breast and colon cancer, among other benefits. Despite these benefits being well established, over a third of UK adults do not meet the recommended amount of activity.

Living with chronic pain or untreated injuries can significantly impact mental health. The constant discomfort, limitations in daily activities, and uncertainty about the future can lead to feelings of frustration, anxiety, and depression.

If you're experiencing chronic pain or dealing with an unaddressed injury, it's essential to seek professional help.

Prehab plays a crucial role in maintaining and improving overall physical health and preventing injuries. While warm-up exercises are essential for preparing the body before engaging in sports or exercise, prehab goes beyond immediate effects and focuses on long-term injury prevention.

Incorporating prehab into a regular exercise routine can have long-lasting benefits and contribute to a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle.

I recommend a program for lots of sports people. Cross fitters, fell runners, and those of you training for that Lakes Man that is just around the corner.

Taping is frequently used as a supplementary or temporary technique. In the presence of an injury, athletes often rely on taping as a protective measure.
Taping can be used for various purposes, such as
1. Stabilising or supporting an injury
2. Reducing pain by relieving stress from sensitive or painful structures,
3. Promoting natural movement, muscle activity, or postural patterns,
4. Boosting athlete confidence
5. Providing pain relief

Do you only consider seeing a physiotherapist when you have pain or are already injured?

You are not alone! Whether you are an athlete or lead a relatively sedentary lifestyle. However, seeking advice and treatment before you start experiencing symptoms, in my opinion, is the best approach. By seeking preventative care, you can avoid injuries and manage your health and well-being better.

Although correct physiotherapy and rehabilitation can provide great results, preventing injury from occurring in the first place is always best.

Whether it's playing with your kids, enjoying your hobbies, or ticking off that goal of running a marathon, you need to be pain-free and healthy. Preventative physiotherapy isn't just for athletes and sports people; it's for everyone.

There are a few factors that impact how many physiotherapy sessions you need and how long it takes for you to see results. Of course, each treatment program is tailored to each person's needs, so your results will be unique. But generally, after each appointment, you should notice improvements in movement and a reduction in pain. Particularly if you're sticking to your treatment plan. If you do not feel you're progressing, make sure to tell your physiotherapist about your concerns.
