Happy sign language day πŸ‘Œ

Today is the International Day of Sign Languages! 🀟

This day was created by the UN General Assembly to raise awareness of the importance of sign language in the full realization of the human rights of people who are deaf.

According to the World Federation of the Deaf, there are more than 70Β million deaf people worldwide. More than 80% of them live in developing countries. Collectively, they use more than 300 different sign languages.

"Wheelchair bound"
One of my pet peeves are these two words. Why? For anyone who actually uses a wheelchair, it is the main thing that liberates us. Also, we all get out of our chairs, some, like me, many times per day. Plus, it's ableist, implying wheelies are less than those without. I'm not a prisoner of my wheelchair, it's my chariot of freedom! 😁
"Person who uses a wheelchair" or "wheelie" (if you know them) is more appropriate.

Terms like 'fully accessible' aren't helpful - fully accessible to who?

We know everyone's accessibility needs are different, which is why having detailed, accurate information is so important. It's why we send our trained surveyors to check out venues in person and why the information we collect has all been decided by our user community.

Our Detailed Access Guides tell you all about a venue's access. They are 100% facts, figures, and photographs. We don't say whether a venue is accessible or not - we give you the detailed information you need to work out if a place is going to be accessible to you.

Check out the facts, and explore the details, before you leave home or on the move using our App and website: https://www.accessable.co.uk/

A train I was on years ago terminated early (because it was running late πŸ™„) at an isolated, non accessible platform - no toilet, shade, means of exit.

I was expected to just wait for another train to come, going to where I wanted it to go, and arriving at the platform I was on, on my own.

I refused to get off! So it then continued to the next stop, which was my destination, with only me onboard πŸ’ͺ

I'm trying to plan a multi-city tour of spain ATM. Given up trying to do it myself, so found a tour operator who had an escorted tour which went exactly where we wanted to go.
We're not in to escorted tours, but thought it would be easier. Obviously not :-( Why is everything so difficult?

"We are unable to guarantee what coach models we use for the excursions or transfers. Normally there are 4-5 steps minimum to bord the coaches.

We are unable to book assistance at stations abroad as in the past we have attempted to arrange this, and they tend to be unreliable. We have instances where they have not been available despite pre booking".

I was happy to book the assistance myself, yes i've had assistance booked in this country before and they've not turned up. In a way you get used to it.

If they used accessible coaches, then the whole tour would be accessible to all, e.g. social model of disability. Rant over.
