Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice provides care for adults in the local area and children across Cumbria with life limiting illnesses. The hospice has a 12 bed adult in-patient unit with eight single en-suite rooms and a four bed room. The home from home environment creates a relaxing atmosphere for patients and families with each room overlooking the recently transformed walled garden. The Day Hospice provides care for up to 15 people a day, four days a week. Most days the sweet smell of freshly baked cakes fills the Day Hospice as patients, nurses and volunteers exchange stories about what has happened since they last met. Jigsaw provides care and support for children and young adults from throughout Cumbria. Every day, Jigsaw is filled with laughter and enjoyment as children and young adults take part in a wide range of colourful, creative and sensory activities. The annual cost of providing our services is over £3million, with only 27% received from the NHS. The kindness and generosity of the local community raises over £2million each year through fundraising events, collection boxes, legacies and much more.

A heartfelt thank you to Carlisle Breast Cancer Care Support Group 💙

We are incredibly grateful for their generous donation of £6,000! Their kindness will helps us to refurbish our rise and recline chairs and purchase a new bath chair, helping to support people living with life-limiting conditions.

A new bath chair means someone who may struggle with pain or mobility can safely enjoy a warm bath - something that can bring comfort, pain relief, and offer a moment of normality.

A refurbished rise and recline chair means our patients can rest comfortably, change position with ease, and feel supported throughout the day. This can make a huge difference to pain levels, and overall wellbeing.

This wonderful support will make a real difference, helping our wonderful nurses continue to provide the very best care for those who need it most. Thank you for helping us continue to care with compassion. 💙

If your company, community group or organisation would like to support or partner with us to provide exceptional care when it matters most - we'd love to hear from you.

💙 “The service and care provided by the fantastic team depends on its supporters for 80% of its income. Please don’t hesitate to do something, anything – every little helps.” - Terry

When Sharron was diagnosed with terminal cancer in July 2024, life changed overnight for her and her partner of 32 years, Terry. What they found at the hospice was more than just medical care.

Like many, Terry admits he didn’t know what to expect. “I thought it was only about managing end-of-life in the short term, and I expected it to be like a hospital – depressing, with everyone there to die. But having now experienced superb hospice care for both of us, I realise how important it is and what a hugely supportive experience it can be for the patient and their loved ones.”

Terry chose to give back to the hospice by leaving a gift in his Will. His generosity means that others will receive the same comfort, dignity, and specialist care that meant so much to Terry and Sharron. 💙

This April, you can write or update your Will as part of Make a Will Month.
You can help protect hospice care for future generations, like Terry.

"They couldn’t do more for you. The people, the nurses, the carers, the cleaners, they’re just amazing. Nothing is too much trouble, day or night." 💙

Elizabeth shared her story during one of the most difficult chapters of her life.
Elizabeth’s cancer journey stretches back many years. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and then with secondary lung nodules in 2016. After treatment, she enjoyed nearly eight years of remission. But in 2025, her health began to decline sharply.

Elizabeth was admitted to the hospice to help her manage her pain. From her first day, Elizabeth felt listened to in a way she hadn’t experienced before, "what a difference it has made to my thinking, to my physical being, to everything.”

Her medication was completely reviewed. Nerve pain medication was carefully adjusted, mattresses were changed to give specific support, and alternative therapies were explored. Returning home is Elizabeth’s goal at the time of the interview. Not to her old life, but to a new version of it that keeps her safe and supported.

What brings Elizabeth the most comfort is the kindness she receives from every member of staff. “I can’t thank them enough for what they’re doing for me. The care, the kindness… I can’t get over it.”

None of this would be possible without your generosity.

By playing the weekly hospice lottery, you're helping patients like Elizabeth receive the specialist nursing care, family support, and comforting moments that make hospice care so special. 💙

And while you're helping local families, you'll also be in with the chance to win amazing cash prices every single week! Play today and help support more people like Elizabeth.
