🌸 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 🌸 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟑! 🌸
Coach Amy has been spending March enjoying the Action for Happiness Mindful March calendar. Below are some of the key days Amy has enjoyed, and how she chose to be mindful on them. Check out our page for part 1 and 2. We hope you had a Mindful March - let us know if you chose to follow the Action for Happiness calendar at all!

📅 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟒𝐭𝐡 - 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨
I was quite reluctant to pick this prompt as I thought that it would be a difficult one for me – that’s a whole mindful lesson in itself! However, I went to a pottery class and though, aha, perfect! It was a real challenge for me to quieten my perfectionism and just actually appreciate what my hands could make with the clay. The winning moment was when my hands weren’t caught up with my brain, I picked up the clay and it split and slopped on to the desk – brilliant. After a little giggle and some mild frustration I took this as a lesson to slooooow down and tune back into my hands!

📅 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡 - 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞
I decided to go left instead of right on my dog walk and that in itself sprung me into mindful mode as it broke the predictability of my usual walk. I did notice that it was hard for me to tune into what was around me without thinking ‘where am I going?’ and thinking about the end destination. So, I decided to let the dogs take charge of the thinking and let them lead me! That really did help me to just notice what was around me instead of trying to work out which way I was going.

📅 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟑𝟏𝐬𝐭 - 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞
I feel like Mindful March has enabled me to do this so much. I am noticing the joy and happiness I feel when I notice the moon on a clear night, or friends laughing or putting my cozy socks on after being on my feet all day. It’s really helped me to concentrate less on the ‘big’ things that can overwhelm me and to notice the smaller things in amongst all this that give me joy.

🌸 𝐀 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐦𝐲 🌸
Thank you for sharing Mindful March with me. It has been a really useful experience for me to put the focus on a mindful moment every day.

It’s also been good for managing my perfectionism as I allowed myself to pick and choose the days rather than follow them to the letter. It was also useful for me to notice the prompts that I avoided too – some learning in there for me for my future mindfulness practice :D

-

📅 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟗𝐭𝐡 - 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬.

The canvas we have in our office can sometimes get lost in amongst everything else however it really does show the loving-kindness to others that we feel. I’ve made sure to put it front and centre on display for everyone to notice.

-

📅 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟒𝐭𝐡 - 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨.

I chose to wash the dishes mindfully today! Normally it’s a task that frustrates me and I’m normally thinking of all the things I need to do when I’ve washed the dishes but not today. Today, I really noticed the feel and warmth of the water, I noticed the smell of the washing up liquid and the patterns it makes in the water, the tiny bubbles with rainbows inside! I noticed the feel of the scourer in my hand and the sound the water made.

-

📅 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟔𝐭𝐡 - 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠; 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧.

I know that I rush round a lot, often bumping into things and trying to do a million things at once without actually doing anything and ending up more stressed! For today, I consciously slowed down my walking to start with and boy, what a difference! As soon as I slowed down my walking I noticed initial worries that I wouldn’t get enough done but as the day went on, I noticed my brain wasn’t as busy with thoughts. This was a challenging one for me as I had to actively remind myself throughout the day – slow down Amy!

Feeling anxious about coming to visit us for the first time? Just want a nosey? This post is for you! 💪

Here are all the answers to the frequently asked questions we get:

📍 Where are we?
1 Victoria Place
Carlisle
CA1 1EJ

♿ Do we have wheelchair access?
Absolutely, we can accommodate all abilities - just let us know what you need!

🚗 Where can I park?
There is free disc parking just up the road outside Struts, there is paid parking in the old Iceland car park over the road, and there's paid parking in The Lanes just over the road too.

🚌 What bus routes are you near?
We are just around the corner from the bus station, so we're very central for public transport. Being just off Lowther street, most local buses will come within a short distance of our building.

🚂 I'm coming from a little further, how far are you from the train station?
We are 0.4 miles from Carlisle train station - that's just an 8 minute walk!

🤝 How many meeting rooms do we have?
We have 3. We have two on the ground floor, and one on the first floor. If noises can be problematic for you, just let us know, we will use a meeting room to the rear of the building - traffic noise free!

💺 Soft furnishings aren't comfortable for me, and there options?
Absolutely. As an office there are countless chairs in this building, so if a hard-backed or hard-bottomed chair is what you need, we will make sure that is what you get.

🐶 My dog is my comfort blanket, he can't stay home alone, can he come?
Of course! We're very dog friendly - just give us a heads up so we can let our staff know.

📅 When can I access support?
Evening support is available 365 days of the year between 5pm and 11pm. Same day appointments available. Please book with The Lighthouse team on 0300 561 0000.
Daytime support is available on weekdays (exc bank hols) between 9am and 5pm. Day appointments are booked in advance with the You in Mind team on 01228 370633.

👥 Can I bring my carer/support person?
Yes, you can. We have a waiting room if you'd like privacy, but they are also welcome to join us in appointments. We will always give you the opportunity to agree to privacy within your appointment.

⏰ How long are appointments?
Appointments are up to 60 minutes, but these can be shorter if the full 60 is not required.

💬 Is this therapy/counselling?
No. Our team are Crisis Intervention Coordinators - which is a fancy way of saying we're here to listen. This is a comfortable space for you to offload, receive support, access signposting if required, and ultimately, talk.

📝 Do I need to be referred in by a professional?
No, you can refer yourself. Professionals can also refer in, but we welcome any kind of referral. You can refer yourself by telephone, email, or by using our website - https://cemind.org/

❓ I have a question that's not on this list, can I contact you?
100%. Contact the service you feel suits you the best, or if you're unsure which will and want to chat to our team, just contact either and we will work it out together.

📅 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟏𝐭𝐡 - 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐚 𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞.

‘Brew?’ I love tea, I love the taste of it, I love the warmth of it, I love sitting round with a brew, I love a solo brew.

When I’ve gone to make a cup of tea, often times I’m in my head thinking about what I need to do after I’ve made the cup of tea and downing the tea without enjoying it! I’m trying to make an effort to mindfully make a cuppa.

The sound of the kettle as it boils, the smell of the tea when the hot water hits the teabag, the colour and shapes the milk makes when I add it. The warmth of the cup in my hand and the pattern the steam makes.

This feels like a special couple of moments to come back to the here and now, to tune into my senses and it’s been easier to add mindful moments to my day rather than dedicated time to sit down with a guided meditation.

-

📅 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 - 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞.

I choose this prompt today as often times I don’t really notice or comment on the weather unless it’s ‘nice’ or ‘stormy’ but today I made the effort on my dog walk to really feel the weather – looks like Lady did too!

-

📅 𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 - 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲.
This video and the visual really helps me to follow the cycle of the breaths and on particularly busy days, I set a reminder to play this video to take some calming breaths. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DqTuWve9t8

-

📅 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟑𝐫𝐝 - 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝.

Blue sky! Catkins on the trees showing the first signs of spring. Crocuses and daffodils popping up even when we have frost.

I’ve just spotted these things on my regular walks with the dog, walks round town but it’s been nice to actually slow down and notice, instead of rushing from A-B. It’s amazing how much I miss when I’m in my head!
