Transformation and this time it's my own
This isn't about the physical changes, this is about the psychological struggles you may face.
Have you ever been in a position where you've started dieting and got exactly what you wanted? Got down to the weight you wanted, fitted into that piece of clothing or felt amazing on a beach sipping a cocktail?
Then life happens and over time you start noticing that clothes are getting tighter, you're not going to the gym as frequently and you're weighing heavier.
You decide to start again, doing exactly what you did last time, and you set your goal to get back down to where you were. This is where the problem starts.
Although this a good gaol, this may not be the best choice. Here's why. Your life may be different to where it once was. There's so many variables that can affect the outcome. Trying the same approach may not work for you now like it once did.
BUT the most important factor being you will always feel like you're failing, and you'll never see how much you've actually achieved if you're constantly comparing now to then. This is where I personally struggled the most. The picture on the left is where I was at my heaviest, my strongest and also performing the best I ever have in competitions.
1.5 years and constantly complaining that I wasn't as strong or as good as I was and training took a hit because of it on and off. I was failing to see what I had actually achieved over that time because, in my head, I'm not as good as I was and putting myself under a lot of unnecessary pressure to get back to where I was.
One quote that really stood out during this time was ‘Be happy with what you have while working for what you want.’
I think this is something we all forget while working towards a goal. We get so fixated about the number on the scale, how we look or even just how feel we forget to see how far we've actually come.
