Looking for a unique and rewarding way to volunteer in a truly special place?

Carlisle Cathedral is looking for volunteers to help welcome visitors, share its rich history, and support a wide range of activities and events⛪️

Volunteers can get involved as Welcomers, greeting visitors as they arrive and helping with enquiries so people can make the most of their visit. You could also volunteer in the Gift Shop, welcoming visitors, pointing them towards further information about the Cathedral, and helping visitors choose guidebooks or special mementos. For those who enjoy history and storytelling, Guides help bring the Cathedral’s past to life for visitors after a period of training and shadowing experienced volunteers.

Opportunities exist across many teams, including guiding and welcoming, education and learning, events, music, grounds, historic collections, bell ringing, liturgical support, and the gift shop.

If you have a friendly disposition and enjoy chatting with people from all walks of life and from around the world, volunteering at Carlisle Cathedral could be the perfect role for you.

🌟 🌟

This week, we’re proud to spotlight Oak Tree Animals' Charity an organisation providing a safe, compassionate place for animals in their time of need. 🐾

Oak Tree supports cats, dogs, equines (and even goats), working to rehabilitate and rehome animals while also supporting positive, long-term relationships between animals and their owners in the community. Their approach is proudly non-judgemental, compassionate, and evidence-based, ensuring both animals and people receive the understanding and support they deserve.

Founded in 1909 by Francis Cox—who campaigned for better conditions for pit ponies and working horses—the charity has grown into a vital safe haven for hundreds of animals each year, giving them a second chance at life.

Beyond rehoming, Oak Tree provides ongoing advice, community support, education programmes, and a Trap Neuter Return (TNR) service for unowned and feral cats—helping animals and owners thrive together for the long term.

An inspiring charity making a real difference to animals and communities alike. 💛
