This is so important!

We all have predominant methods of communicating and expressing ourselves.

We live in a society where verbal expression is ‘seen’ as the dominant method of communicating

BUT

This couldn’t be further from the truth!

93% of communication is nonverbal and nonspeaking with a tiny percent of 7% being given to words. READ THAT AGAIN!

Just because nonspeaking autistic children and young people cannot verbalise their thoughts and feelings most certainly does not mean they themselves do not have their thoughts and feelings - they are expressed via their nonverbal communication (which is 93% of overall communication anyway!).

MPS provides psychotherapy intervention using movement and body-based therapeutic tools to provide a safe space for individuals who are nonspeaking to express themselves and process their thoughts and feelings.

MPS provides therapeutic sessions to nonverbal autistic children and their families.

Everyone has mental health, feelings, emotions, and thoughts!

Because verbal communication is not the predominant method of expression, MPS focuses on movement patterns and signatures to express an individual’s mental health, feelings, emotions, and thoughts.

The mind and body are linked so working with the body does also in turn work with the mind.

This creates a physical and psychological shift to promote an individuals emotional and social wellbeing.

Let’s get moving!

Movement and moving can be very different for individuals.

MPS - Movement Psychotherapy Scotland supports nonverbal autistic children to explore their emotions and mental health through their individual movement patterns. This helps to release overwhelming emotions from the body and to expand on their movement signatures that help with emotional regulation.

You’ll find MPS in the National Autistic Society directory or send a direct message to MPS for more Q&A!

Going for a walk in your neighbourhood, putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room, chair exercises when you’re watching TV – it all counts! 🕺👩‍🦽🎵

👉 All week, we’ll be sharing tips, advice, and information to help you get the mental health benefits of movement.
