We’re excited to share that Werndale Hospital is undergoing a major investment programme — part of our long-term commitment to enhancing services and putting patients first.

Improvement works are now underway, and over the next 18 months we’ll be transforming the hospital into a more spacious, modern environment — all while remaining open as usual.

Key features of the expansion will include:
✅ Two new state-of-the-art Operating Theatres
✅ New Outpatient, Physiotherapy and Pre-Assessment Departments
✅ A spacious new reception area
✅ Eight new en-suite patient bedrooms
✅ Upgraded clinical and administrative areas

Armed Forces Week

At Werndale Hospital, we are proud to stand alongside the many who have served in the Armed Forces - and even prouder to work alongside some of them every day.

To mark this year’s Armed Forces Day, we sat down with two of our incredible colleagues to explore the powerful connection between military service and healthcare.

In Part 1, we meet Viv Rees, a member of our Materials Team and a veteran of the Royal Air Force, where he served with an astonishing 39 years.

In this short interview, Viv reflects on his time in the RAF, the values that shaped him, and how those experiences continue to influence his work here at Werndale. We’re honoured to share it with you.

This week, after many years of service, we said goodbye to Dr Phil Avery, Consultant Cardiologist, as he begins his retirement.

As one of Werndale Hospital’s longest-serving consultants, Phil has been a consistent and respected presence at the hospital. His clinical experience and steady approach to patient care has been greatly appreciated by colleagues and patients alike.

We thank him for his many years of service and wish him all the best in his retirement.

We are proud to share that our Endoscopy Service has once again been successfully revalidated, following our annual review by JAG – a nationally recognised standard of excellence in gastrointestinal endoscopy.

What is JAG? The Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy assesses services to ensure they provide high-quality, safe, and patient focused care. This revalidation confirms that our team continues to deliver the highest standards for procedures like colonoscopies.

A big thank you to Ros, our Endoscopy Lead, and the entire Endoscopy team for their ongoing dedication and focus on quality patient care.
